You can, if you REALLY want to, take your hamster on road trips, but it would be rather hard on the pet. I say just leave it w/ someone responsible to care for it. hamsters are escape artists. be careful. if you do take him/her on a road trip, you can accommodate it w/ a simple little carrier box w/ holes at the top or with a cage not made out of glass, but one that is a wire cage. The wire cage would be a better choice considering you'll be on the road for quite some time. Make sure that your hamster has food and water available to it. You probably should not keep it in the cage all day. You should make sure it gets enough socialization w/ you. Make sure it's cage has a soft bedding in it. Wood chips are perfect.
You say you can't find good travel case? Well, if the cage is big, make sure it has lots of soft bedding, just in case the roads get bumpy.
Other than that, the hamster should be fine.
i think so unless your going on bumpy roads
probably, unless the road is really really bumpy
well my hamsters traveled from Romania to Italy by car and one of them was pregnant... everything was OK... no problem!
It should be ok as long as your not doing any offroading or anything like that.
I would not he probably would be very scared and it will be very stressed he/her will probably bite you if you hold him. Um are you just getting your hamster? If you are you shouldn't hold your hamster for about 24 hours or touch him/her or even pet him/her!! He/her should be in a very quiet place and in a dark cool place and should not be in direct sunlight!!
If you have any hamster questions plz e-mail me!!!! He should have some hamster food in the box when he/her is in the car and the food and water is ready in the cage!!
I moved from CT to Va and my hamster survived the ride in the car. 10 hours. She was fine slept pretty much the whole time and was not stressed out at all and the car was loaded with stuff too. As long as its not real hot she/he will be fine.
We take our two mice with us on roadtrips. We usually take the water bottle out of the cage while riding because every time we hit a bump, it leaks. Our mice usually just ride the wheel or sleep, just like at home.
Just make sure that you don't leave them in the car, just like you wouldn't with other pets.
if you make sure the cage strapped in your hamster will be fine i go on raod trips all the time in the mountains. Also you shouldnt get a travling bag because your hamster could get smashed instead stick with a small hard sided cage.
As long as you don't go on bumpy roads.
