Hamster question..?

Well, i want to get a pet hamster, but my dad said they smell. Can someone tell me if this is true? (My big brother had a hamster, and i know you have to change the woodchips.)
Answers:
as long as you change theyre bedding and clean up theyre cage they don't smell
I have a dwarf hamster and as long as we clean his cage regularly, you don't notice a smell.
hamsters dont smell, you could buy like a little potty and put it in a corner of the cage, place some poop in there and it will encourage them to use it.
Then basics clean the potty out each day and then just clean the whole cage once a week
but nope hammies dont smell
GOOD LUCK convincing your dad
they do but you can get this spray or powder and put it on them and they smell goood.
good luckk
-meeeeee
:))
Yes, most of the time they do smell, but you can use this special animal spray to bathe them so they don't smell.
If you clean their houses and change their bedding regularly then no but if you neglect them and don't care for them then yes.
if it stinks then give your hampster a bath
not with regular water but at petco you can buy
small animal shampoo, it is a powder that you just rub into their fur and it will make them smell just as if they just got out of the bath tub...it is safe for them and they love this
also remember to keep the cages clean
and dont put two hampsters in the same cage they might fight (if it is two males or two females) or they will end up mating (male and female) and you will have plenty of problems on your hands then
Good luck and I hope you are able to get your furry friend
i had a teddy bear hamster once and he never smelled as bad as my sister's guinea pig. the cage is easy to clean with the wood chips, and as long as you keep them happy and healthy they normally clean themselves.
Yes, they stink if you don't clean their cage often. You need to bathe them as well. Usually they have something called the "bathing sand" for the hamsters to roll themselves on (so called bathing themselves on the sand). I've tried that but I think they still stink a little. If you want them to smell really nice you should bathe them (with warm water and some pet shampoo for little animals), then spray a little "hamster perfume" (they sell those in pet shops).
It depends what you mean by "smell". All animals smell of something, and yes hamsters do have an odour. However, if you keep the cage clean then it will not be very detectable or unpleasant.
Is your dad just making excuses so you don't get a hamster though? Unfortunately if this is the case you may have to wait until you get your own place to have pets.
It's not the hamster that smells it's its cage. As long as you clean their cage like you're suppose to, it will not smell.
oh yeah! if u get a teddy bear hamster.. it smells HORID!!
i would recomend the dwarf hamster.
I can reasure your dad and safely say they do not smell. But the cage will if you do not disinfect it once a week. It is very important to make sure this is thorougly done. Hamsters can pick up infections and diseases very easily in an unclean cage and die as a result. But no, my hamster most definatly does not smell!!
My hamster stinks! When i open the door of the room that he is in in the morning its unbearable. But that is just my hamsters scent, there is nothing you can do about it! But i love him all the same!
no they don't but the bedding does if you don't change it and keep it clean.
we have 2 hamsters they don't smell. If you don't keep clean cage any animal would smell. We use pine shavings they smell extra good.
They kinda smell but not bad you just have to change the cage every 1 or 2 weeks. GOOD LUCK!
They don't really smell if you clean the cage and change the bedding regularly.
i have 6 adults hamster n 7 babies.. they're not smelly.. just make sure there's enough water n food for them. they'll be happy inside their cage playing with their toy. dont let the woodchips wet, it will be smelly then.
i have 4 hamster and if u r busy then dont get one
my lil sis got one(she is 7)and she was busy and i found my self cleaning the cage.one way to keep the smell out is to sometimes open a window and clean the cage once a week
and u can find bedding that smells good so hope this works!!
They smell terrible. Get a turlte.
Yes, about the time the woodchips need to be changed the cage does start to smell. If you want to reduce the smell, use a type of bedding that collects or covers up the odor. The hamsters themselves don't smell.
girl hamsters have a tendency to stink more than the males
Only if you leave them too long without cleaning the cage. But then you would would smell if you didn't wash wouldn't u.
