no thats not true. they are noctural.
what they really like is a nice wide open cage. roomy
and toys. and to be handled alot cause they love sitting on
your shoulder or looking around at places so you should get
him a ball so that he can run around in it!

AS for making hamsters happy (I'm assuming you mean in captivity) , a roomy cage, with ad lib. food and water plenty of hiding places, peace and quiet.
hamsters and gerbils are NOT blind, unless there is a bad gene and it is born that way. hamsters and gerbils are most happy when living in a clean environment with food and water. also they love strawberries and banana bits, but don't give them too much.
No to both. Their eyesight is pretty clear. They are only blind to certain colors. Such as pink, red, and orange. I hope i helped.
