The previous poster is correct. It is much better to save a little more money and buy a metal cage that has a wheel and water bottle included with it. Also, make sure you are using the appropriate wood shavings- some can be harmful to hamsters.
it's really better to keep a hamster in a metal cage as they can chew and gnaw on the plastic walls of a tub like the on you have and this can kill them. additionally, because a plastic tub has solid walls, it does not allow proper ventilation for the hamster. finally, it is always possible that the hamster might find a way to scramble out of the tub, because it does not have a top. in short, it's not a good idea. sorry. :(
a tub can work , it is like an aquarium. You need a wire top to keep your pet from escaping . The water bottle can often be hung with a bent clothehanger from the top edge of the tub. Get one of your parents to help bend the wire, or get a hanger made for aquariums . If the tub is to be the pets cage you may be able to put holes in it to mount the water bottle.
You need to keep the cage clean because there is limited ventilation and the fumes from the urine may build up.
It the tub had rounded edges it will be hard for the animal to chew on it , but watch for that.
People make tubs into cages all the time, they actually refer to them as Bin cages. Bin cages are perfectly safe for your little buddy, but if you see him chewing, you might need to get a different cage.
You would need to drill SMALL holes on the sides of the bin (make sure they are high enough that the hamster can't reach the holes and make them bigger) and also on the lid (or you can cut out the middle of the lid and attach wire to it).
You can get a free-standing wheel and drill 3 holes for the water bottle and the wire to hold it.
Here is a great website on how to make one:

Good luck!
