Hamster Wire Cage Connectors still available?

I have one of those big, plain, wire cages and want to know if the connectors for those are still available? I bought a new cage and want to connect the 2. Or is that even possible anymore?
Answers:
you might have to ask a clerk at a store where you bought it from. i thnk that you could get a tube that links into the other cage.
Good Luck!

Hamster who doesn't like tubes?

Is it normal for a hamster not to like going through tubes. I thought all hamsters liked them. Anyway, my hamster has tubes that lead to the 2nd level of her cage which is where her food is. But instead of going through the tubes, she climbs the bars of her cage, shimmys (sp?) over to the level and limbs on. To get back down, she just jumps over the side to the bottom level. I haven't seen her use the tubes for a long time. Is there any point of them being in her cage? Should I take them out to make more room for things that she might be more interested in? Should I try to get her to use the tubes and stop being lazy by taking the short cut?
Answers:
3 out of 10 hamsters do not like going in tubes for simple reasons. one of them is that the tubes may be to small for them and they will get stuck so make sure that the tubes are big enough for them to go in and get out.try teaching her to go into the tubes by putting your fingers in the tube and demonstrating how its done. soon enough she will go in them
sounds like she is scared of it, have you washed it out? she may have peed inside and doesnt like the smell, or maybe she just like to climb and jump down..
throw it out the window.
yeah
I had a hampster who did this, but he got back down to the first level by riding the top of his wheel down to a hampy house on the first level. It was very funny to watch. But he did like longer tubes, like the one going to the hampy sky house and the one going to the hampy hide-out in his cage. Just leave them there unless you have something you want to put in the cage. I always found that my hampy stored food under the tubes.
I had a rabbit who did more or less the same thing - ignored the things I put there. The experience taught me to respect other people's choices. The rabbit is long since dead, but I believe I am a better person for having experienced her independence of character.
i have found that most of the small pets i have kept do not like translucent tubes. that means, if you can see them, even if it is colored, they don't like it. if you are constructive, maybe you can build something out of paper towel tubes.
one way to get her inside might be to add some peanut butter inside, in the middle, so she has to use it.
Not all hamsters like tubes - mine didn't. You have to remember that those cage companies try to make cages that are colorful and look fun for kids who have hamsters so they will convince their parents to buy them and all of the accessories, etc. Yeah, it can be fun for the hamster, but it's not necessarily in the hamsters best interest since most don't like them.
I wouldn't be worried - she can get to her food and exerts more energy doing that than going through the tunnels, so she won't get fat! Personally, I would take them out to find something she might find more interesting - there are so many cool things for small animals out today. Just make sure she'll be able to squeeze in/through/etc. I wish they either had some of the stuff they have now when I was a kid - I would have loved it for my hamster or gerbil. Now we have a degu who is too big to fit in hose
It's not abnormal. Mine doesn't like the tubes either. Try cleaning them out. If she still doesn't like them just take them out to make more room for other things or just to give her more room.
Don't take the tubes out she might want them later. Maybe she is closterphobic. lol. I don't think there is a way to make her go in it if she doesn't like them. :)
maybe the way they are set up is too difficult to climb. try setting them up less steeply and put treat in them to get her to try again.
She may be too big for them. Some Syrians grow to 6" long and it becomes difficult for them to navigate the tubes. We have one 6" with very long hair that nearly got stuck in a tube. I wouldn't worry about the way she does things, it's building up her muscle and making her a stronger hamster. We quit using cages with tubes partly for the same reason, plus it cut down on the cleaning time. We have 40+/- cages to clean each time. Our small animals in wire cages love climbing the wire. I wouldn't call her lazy for being smart enough to climb the wire to eat.
It is very normal it's just a very lazy hamster. :)
My hamster does the same exact thing! One day when I let him out he crawled up the long tube of the vacuum(don't worry i got him out within seconds) so i guess he likes tubes but it just slows him down or gets in his way. Maybe it's the same with your hamster.

Hamster wet tail PLEASE HELP!?

I was holding my hamster, and let her walk on the floor. And all of a sudden she pooped, but it was really soggy. I looked at her bottom area, and it had kind of a sticky look. The color was kind of clear, but it had a tint of brown. Is this wet tail?
Shes acting normal. Shes eating/drinking, but I did notice some greasy spots on her. Is this a sign of not grooming? Again, shes acting COMPLETELY normal.
Please help!
Answers:
Here is what u should look out for incase she does have wet tail...
'Wet tail' is a very serious intestinal disease of young hamsters, which often causes death. It gets its name because the main symptom is diarrhea, and affected hamsters often have wet and dirty tails. It is caused by bacteria called Lawsonia intracellularis, which can also cause disease in swine, horses, dogs, ferrets, primates, and other animals. This disease does not appear to be transmissible to people.
Wet tail is more commonly seen in hamsters of weaning age (3-6 weeks old), but hamsters of all ages are susceptible. Hamsters sold in pet stores generally have just been weaned, so 'wet tail' may occur soon after the hamster is taken home. All breeds of hamsters can develop wet tail, but long-haired 'teddy bear' hamsters are most susceptible.
What are the symptoms of wet tail?
Hamsters with wet tail are generally lethargic with a loss of appetite and generally stop grooming. They have a very fluid diarrhea, and develop a wet, soiled, and matted area around the anus and tail. The diarrhea causes them to become dehydrated, so their eyes may appear dull and sunken. They may sit 'hunched up' and be irritable because of the abdominal discomfort. In serious cases, blood may be seen in the diarrhea or around the anus, and/or the rectum may protrude out of the anus because of the constant straining.
Wet tail is a very serious disease, and hamsters with the above symptoms should be examined by a veterinarian immediately.
How is wet tail treated?
Antibiotics are given to kill the bacteria. Supportive care is given including subcutaneous fluids to correct the dehydration, antidiarrheal medication to alleviate some of the symptoms, and the hamster is kept warm and clean. Even with treatment, most hamsters die of this disease, often as soon as 48 hours after the onset of initial signs.
Can wet tail be prevented?
Wet tail can not necessarily be prevented, but the risk of a hamster acquiring this disease can be reduced. Hamsters should be kept in a clean environment, since transmission of the bacteria from the mother or other hamsters to the young occurs when the young eat fecal-contaminated food or water. Before acquiring a young hamster, ask the source about the occurrence of wet tail in their facility. Choose your hamster from a line of hamsters that has no history of this disease. Avoid stressing young hamsters when moving them to a new environment, e.g.; limit handling them the first few days, keep the hamsters on the same food they were eating for a few days and then slowly switch to a new food if necessary, etc.

good luck!!
take her to your pet store, especially a PetSmart, they'll look at him.

From the sounds of it, it could be wettail, though I have never heard of it being clear with a tint of brown. You can also get "DryTail" it's a medication for wettail if you need to but I'd suggest bringing your hamster to someone that deals with tons of them every day.
yah she probably does youll have to take her to the vet to be sure/ get medication
I think it can also be diahrrea. Give him pepto bismol, JK! Go to a vet and have him checked out.
is it real smelly?? that's the difference, it will stink real bad, and watch the hammie, it only takes 24-48 hrs for wet tail to kill them, mine died at 7 months from it, at the vets.
I do not know a lot about wet tail, but I can tell you that my guinea pig died of it on Monday. We had never heard of it. We bought Dri Tail and have been treating our other guinea pig. The package gives the dosage amount to give...I recommend treating for it if you think that is what it is. My guinea pig was fine and then died a couple hours later. I only had him two weeks but I miss him. Good luck.

Hamster- wet tail and allergies?

I've had my hamster for about week and he seems to have developed wet tail. His tail is indeed quite wet as well as the rest of the area and he has been totally unactive for days, until I just cleaned out his cage. There didn't seem to be any diarrhea though, just him sleeping in his own urine. So- is this really wet tail?
One of his eyes is also crusted shut. I have read to use a warm compress on it, but he isn't tame enough to let me do this and I can't get near him. I'm not sure what he'd be allergic to- he has that cardboard-ish bedding that is supposedly the best. I have temporarily replaced his bedding with plain white paper towel strips.
What can I do? I know I can replace him at PetsMart still, but I want to HELP him and not just trade him in. No offense, but the vet is really not worth it for something with such a short life span, so I can't really spend the money unless this little guy has a true chance at life.
Answers:
RETURN HIM TO THE STORE ASAP. They can treat the hamster and sell him back to you when he is healthy. This is really the best thing you can do for him. That or contact a vet and ask for nutralyte and uromyacin (not sure how to spell it) which are better for treating wet tail then the product called dri tail. Please return him to the store ASAP.
Go to the vet first, they will probrably tell you what to do. If they support PetSmart they will treat it for free. If not go to PetSmart and return it and ask them to keep it for you till it gets better.
A wet tail is sometimes a sign of diarrhea but just to double check, look at the consistency of his stool if its solid or loose. To help prevent him from sleeping in his own bodily fluids, try placing some boxes large enough for him to sit in. My hamster used to sit in the feed boxes to urinate.
As for his conjunctivitis (crusty eyes), check if he's rubbing his face where he's going to the bathroom. If so, try cleaning his cage more often. Also, try flushing his eyes out with tear drops (water only) to try and flush out bacteria.
youre using the wrong litter for the hamster, all rodents get upper respiratory trouble when they are exposed to cedar shavings or pine shavings, paper towling isnt good either, what you should use is something called "CAREFRESH" it looks like paper mache, this by far is the cadillac of pet litter.oh,its very absorbent too,as for the wet tail i would have a vet check the little guy anyways.good luck!

Hamster weight?

How large should hamsters weigh and be in size because I'm beginning to think I feed it too much.
Answers:
Is your hamster a syrian (teddybear)? If so dont worry, they can get to quite a size. My Friends and family call my poor hammie a rat without a tail!
Syriand can grow well over 6-7 inches in length, and yes, mine is quite rounded and padded out. But he has regular standard health checks at the vet and she has never said he is over weight, but infact very healthy.
about 2 1/2 pounds
i honestly dunno but i'd think that it would have to depend on the age and stuff
10grams
4 to 6oz should be normal... Make sure they get exercise
An adult hamster weighs roughly 90 - 150 gm.
By the way, it'll vary depending on the type of hamster you have.
my hamster is a syrian, and it weighs 4 ounces, which is normal.

Hamster w/ blood on his....?

My daughter came to me last night FREAKING out cause "Chewy" her male hamster had a bit of blood on his "peeper"...it seemed like fresh blood...very red...not dripping or anything, but it was definitely there.any ideas what could cause this?? (weird question..I know...)
Answers:
yeah i know about this. all my old male mice got this. its just what happens when they get old, it gets irritated on the shavings, and he will likely keep licking it, and it will go away.
Its not a weird question i dont know anything about hamsters but i would take him to the vet
Probably a UTI, get a hamster-safe antibiotic such as Baytril or Albon from your vet.
Several things. If you would note the location of "Chewy's" peeper as you call it and note the length of "Chewy's" legs, I would imagine that there is not much clearence and the poor little guy is exposed to all sorts of things. He could of scratched it on something, or there could be something stuck in the foreskin, or he could have done it himself trying to get at a flea or some other critter. But, don't rule out some type of infection. If it doesn't get any better, see a Vet.
change the bedding

Hamster vs. gerbils?

would you rather have a hamster or 2 gerbils. dont just base it on cuteness. base your desision on energy, clenliness, and how much they cost. and all around best charicteristics. i dont know which to get.
Answers:
Gerbils, hands down.
They're much cleaner than hamsters are. They don't urinate as much as hamsters do and that cuts the smell and amount of time cleaning the cage by a lot.
Since hamsters are solitary animals by nature, they tend to be a bit more aggressive with each other, so it's not usually a good idea to house them together... which means you either only get one or get separate cages for each of them. Gerbils get along a lot better so you can house more of them together and not have to worry about fighting too much.
Hamsters tend to be a bit more untrustworthy and grumpy than gerbils... add on the need to explore things with their teeth and they aren't the greatest things to hold--even if they're cute. Gerbils tend to be a little more easy-going once you get them used to handling.
Hamsters are nocturnal; which means you seriously have to limit the time you wake them up during the day. And if they are sleeping when you want to handle them, you have to go through the whole blowing on them, talking to them, and waiting till they're fully awake thing to be able to pick them up safely.
I'd go for a gerbil over a hamster any day.
A rat makes a better pet than either of them.
Gerbil i have 3 and i love them they are so much better and i think that they are the ones to get if i were you i would get a Gerbil only because hamsters bite and have a lot more energy so i think that you should get the gerbil and they are so much cuter i know that you did not want to know which one was cuter but they just are lol
well hope this helps and good luck!! B-)
My friend had gerbils they are so energetic and fun to watch runaround there cage.
Rats are GROOOOOOS.
One of my friends had a dwarf hamster, and another had two gerbils. The hamster was very energetic when he was awake. The gerbils were also very energetic. The hamster didn't make a big mess, but then again there were two gerbils in one cage, so it was automatically dirtier. Gerbils and hamsters cost about the same. I would recommend two gerbils becuase they don't bite as much as hamsters do (that hamster was very mean, he would always bite me).
I would choose niether. But from my experience...
*Gerbils tend to have much more energy. They are constantly lively and quick. Sometimes difficult to handle. Hamsters are still quite speedy, but do calm down, and if handled enough can be held comfortably.
*They both produce a similar amount of odour, which can be diminished with frequent cage cleanings (once a week or more). And they both like to burrow (although gerbils will actually kick bedding aside), so shavings can sometimes escape the cage. I reccoment an aquarium for gerbils to prevent this, but with an aquarium, the ventilation is worst forcing you to clean the cage a bit more often otherwise they can develop health problems.
*Their anual costs are around the same.
*As I said, gerbils are always lively. Watch them at a pet store and you'll know what I mean. Hamsters are a bit more settled. if you are looking for a cuddly pet you want to hold very often, I would not go with either, but if you want to observe them in their daily explorations (and obvioulsy hod them too), they both would make a lovely choice.
Hamsters are nocturnal will be can be noisy in the night running on wheel or chewing bars but are quite happy to be woken gently and slowly then be taken out of cage not much fun to watch in cage during day like gerbils.
Hamsters are less smelly than gerbils and from my experience less likely to bite as long as you don't reach straight in and grab then while their asleep.
Gerbil are fast while hamsters are slower easier to catch.
Had both if after something you want to handle easily I'd go for the hamster would advice not to keep in bedroom due to noise at night.
For amusement to watch I'd go for the gerbil's
Hope this helps
well hamsters are cleaner than any other rodents. dwarf hamsters are the cutest things in the world and they are real nice. But gerbils cost at least 4 dollars less than dwarf hamster .hamsters are not very energetic because they r nocturnals and they sleep at least 14 hours of the day
Hamsters because they are bigger and are so cute when there on the wheel.
I have had both. And I would say to get a hamster because gerbils and super fast and once they are out of their cage theres pretty much nothing you can do. And they tend to bite more. And i would say you should get a teddy bear or long haired hamster because i have noticed its extremely rare to find a short hair or darwf hamster that doesnt bite.
GERBILS! They are more active- Hamsters are notctornal, you know- they sleep all day and keep you awake at night. Also, Hamsters REALLY stink- they are biters too- Hamsters think that when you reach in to get them, you are in THEIR territory, so they bite. Hamster bites can realyy hurt!
Gerbils, on the other hand, are fun and social, good with people, actually are awake during the day and sleep a lot at night... They are cuter and more fun, cleaner and are around $10 each. Also, you can put 2 Gerbils in a ten-gallon aquarium with some bedding, food, water, and a wheel and some cardboard (they need things to chew on) and they'll have lots of fun!
They take very good pictures and if you give them a peice of paper that's folded up into fourths, they'll make you paper snowflakes and oher designs. Plus, there are lots of Gerbil contests and shows to enter!!
Gerbils aren't dumb- no matter what ANYONE says- they are adorable, smart, and clean. They can even learn tricks!!
Gerbils are better in my opinion. They are energitic and like to be held. Gerbils are very clean, and rarely poo. They are easy to care for and most dont bit. Hamsters smell, bite, and sleep while you are awake.
It is also personal opinion. I can guess you have mine :). lol. Hamsters are good in some ways too. If you like hamster, that great. Both make wonderful pets:).
A hamster.
=]

Just do some research on both animals
and see which one fits your wants.
%26lt;3
hamsters, they aren't nervous and uptight like gerbils are, and they are cuter and easier to handle, and you only need one.

Hamster votes?teddy bear hamster owners only?

does teddy bear hamsters bite cause it said it doesent
Answers:
Any hamster bites, that is why they need a calm and a gentle person to tame them.
Go read some stuff about taming.

My daughter has a teddy bear hamster and it has bitten a couple times. It was when it got scared though or when he first came home and was nervous. He does not anymore. It doesn't hurt bad. He just got scared is all.
Any animal will bite if it is scared. Russian Dwarf bite alot more then usualy though.
I have a hamster and it nibbles on you. it doesn't matter because
it does not hurt and you will learn that your hamster does not mean to bite you but when it bites it wants to be left alone in its cage.It doesn't bite but it nibbles and they make good pets1
heck yes they can
I have 2
One would NEVER bite me
but the other bites all the time.
i got a teddy bear hamster from the humane society and it was very well tamed they told my all hamsters bite but teddy bears don't bite as much unless they are scared or if you hurt them
no only if frightened.
they will if they get scared. and when you get one, they have to bite so they can get to know you and to find out that you are not food.
Well, usually hamster will bite if they smell a scent on your hands or they feel threatend and are trying to get away. So, aslong as you keep your hands non-food smelling, and try not to make your hamster feel threatend. I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck,
~ Future Vet
Our Teddy Bear hamster only bit when he was frightened, yet the bite wasn't anything major. He just seemed to want to get his point across. No blood was ever drawn from a bite. I think it was more of a nibble then anything. Good luck with yours! BTW, did you name it yet??
I have never had a Teddy Bear bite me.

Hamster Vomit?

My friend's hamster thew up yesterday, and I was wondering what may cause her to throw up. She is really worried and is wondering if she might die or if she is sick. Any help is appreciated.
Answers:
Are you sure the hamster threw up, or was the hamster simply removing stored food from her cheek-pouches?
Hamsters and other rodents have pouches in their cheeks. Syrian (golden, teddy bears, etc) hamsters are originally from the Syrian desert. They have evolved in a climate that doesn't have a lot of vegetation so the animals would have to wander for long distances to collect food. For this reason, hamsters have a lot of energy (running on wheels) and will store food in their cheep pouches. When they reach their nest, they will push the food out of their pouches and it does look like they are throwing up.
My understanding is that hamsters can't throw up. They have a different digestion system than we do. Another exciting thing that hamsters will do is occasionally eat their poo. Because of their tiny digestive systems, their body cannot absorb all the nutrients, so in the same idea as cows and other ungulants chewing their cud to have a 2nd go at absorbing nutrients, hamsters and other rodents will snack on their poo.
yum yum
She might of just ate something that messed with her insides and just threw it up. She might be okay, but if she starts to stop eating or drinking take her to a vet ASAP! She might die. Hope everything goes okay. Trust me, I'm a vet.
Are you sure it actually threw up? It could have actually just emptied its pouches in it's mouth
i used to have a female hamster, and it was a bit old. she threw up for two days and i wasn't allowed to brign ti to the vet. i don't know why she vomited, but she lost weight and i accidentally put her on her back when i put her down, and it took longer for her to get back on to her four feet. so if your friend's hamster has trouble getting on balance, tell her to put the hamster on it's back, or if it's lethargic, it's probably going to die in a few days. and if it doesn't drink or eat. and loss of weight.
Are you sure it was'nt just removing food from its cheek pouches and just looked like she was throwing up?
If not, your friend should be worried. I have never heard of a hamster actually being sick, it tends to effect their bottoms if they have an pset belly. The only advice i can give is for your friend to get her hamster to the vet ASAP.

This company has a lot of hospitals, they may have doctors for hamsters.
Sorry but b/c of the fact that hamsters are so cheap and so small that it makes them hard to work on, there are no "hamster vets". If you wanted to you could take it to a normal vet... like where you'd take your dog or cat, but there isn't anything else.
Sorry I had to be the one to tell you this.
Where in Texas? Its a rather big state. :)
Look in the phone book for exotic animal vets. They generally specialize in rodent, ferret, bird, lizard, etc health. That's where my hamster and ferrets go.
Also, your closest Petco store may be able to help you. Mine has a sign posted near the rodents with the contact information with their recommended area vet.
Texas is a pretty big place. I would suggest that you pick up your local yellow pages and phone the various vets and ask them. They don't often advertise that they will treat rodents and small animals.
look in your local phonebook for exotic vets, they are for rodents.

Hamster Vacation!!!!!!!!!?

I'm going to get a hamster. My family and i are wondering if we can bring it on a car ride to Preston, Connecticut. We live in Lindenhurst, NY. It takes a minimum of 4 hours to get there and we usually take a rest stop. Please answer quickly!!!!!!
Answers:
yes you can take it with you. you just have to be very carful. but first you have to check to see if the hotel ( if your staying in a hotel) alows hamsters. unless you want to sneak it in. But it's totaly cool to have a hamster in a car. just try not to shake it up. and i also suggest that you put a blanket over the cage to the hamster wont be staring ah you the intier time and so it will have it's privetcy.

have fun with your new friend and also on your trip.
i wouldnt advice it what with the heat and all
It depends.
If you make sure it has everything it needs in order live then I guess.
As long as it isn't in any bad heat it should be fine.
it depends becuase if you leave it in your car w/out ac it'll die.
however, dont leave it directly in front of the ac, or in direct sunlight, because it'll die. they're extremely sensitive, so im not sure how wise it is. maybe you could ask someone to take care of it (if it doesnt bitethe person, of course).
if you're careful, you'll be able to. try to prevent the cage from shaking and stuff so it can sleep (they're nocturnal; the less you disturb them when they're sleeping, the longer they live, just llike humans)
You shouldnt do that even if you have air conditioning. Because once I sold a hamster to this lady and she took him home(which was only like 30 mins away) and he died even though she had air conditioning
i don't think so. i took my hamster to my sister's house. it was only 20 min. and mine seemed uncomf.
as long as it wasn't hot in the car.
No, it is not a good idea to bring a hamster on a road trip. The car will most likely bump up and down witch will deeply disturb your hamster. The bumps will cause irritation and agitation your hamster. Also, the heat in your car (even with the air-conditioning) can further irritate your hamster. If you bring your hamster on the road trip it can and probably will cause stress for the hamster, and might cause a stress related illness such as wet-tail. If not treated immediately, wet-tail can kill your hamster within 24 hours.
I hope this helps make your decision about bringing your hamster on your road trip!
I would leave you're hamster with a friend. Hamsters don' like traveling.

Hamster Unholdable?

My hamster will not let me hold him! He is a Chineese Dwarf hamster and he is approximately 2 years. He is a male and he is not sick. The person who had him last was a teacher and her students kept on poking him(that's why she gave him away). I think that's the issue but does anyone have any suggestions???
Thx,

Answers:
give it time
treat him very gently
feed him by hand
handle him at least once a day
Just gently pet your hamster every day and hand feed your hamster! And soon he will trust you enough to hold him! But sadly your hamster won't be living for much longer maybe a year or maybe less. I am sorry!
He's probably scared of people and you should of bought a new hamster from the pet store, then you know it doesnt have anything wrong with people and it's surroundings.!.
First, does he bite. If so wear gloves and put treats in your hand every morning for a week till he gets use to your presence. I suggest carrots and lettuce. If he doesn't bite, then no gloves are necessary. Then after the week if you used gloves do a week without gloves, so he can get your scent. If no gloves than attempt to hold him while giving him the treat so he will sit in your hand while nibbling on the goods. Soon he will come to trust you and become more sociable and friendly.
leave him alone ..he had enogh holding squeezing...poking..not being mean but ...leave him alone.because something is bruised or broke.take him to the vet, honey
hello
you need to give your hammy time to get used to you %26 your tender ways.
think as if it were you being poked all of the time %26 than your were in a different place with new people would you feel friendly?
give it time
take like 15 minutes each day %26 just talk to him try giving it a favroite treat he may never warm up to you as a snugely friend but he will soon come to know that you are not going to hurt him
wake him up slowley too hamsters hate to be jolted out of there sleep
carefully take apart his home If he sleeps in a ball of shavings so you do not scaer him they can be wonderful pets
good luck

Dwarf hamsters are the most .we'll say aggressive hamsters. My daughter has had two teddy bear hamsters, and when the first one passed away (by the way we could never hold the first one without losing fingers) I took her to the pet store to get another one, the clerk suggested steering clear of the dwarf hamsters. They say that the fancy hamsters are the most social, but I ended up adopting a teddy bear hamster that had been hand raised by a family verses a breeder, and she is very sweet.
P.S. The best rodent companion that I have ever owned is a rat, they have great dispositions.
It's sounds like your hamster has passed his early character developmental stages. He has pretty much decided how to act in all situations. A simple quote"YOU CAN'T TEACH AN OLD DOG A NEW TRICK." I suppose you could contact that phychic pet lady. She could help theanimalphychic.com (Just send her a photo and tell her the problem).
if you only pet him 4 3 days then start picking him up and make shur you give him lots of rest other wise he gets relly mad i bet
Well, first you have to regain it's trust. The key, is bribery. Hold out a treat and hopefully the hamster will come to you. Do this 1 time a day. After doing this for about 7-10 days, th hamster should start to comprehend you mean no harm, then hold a treat out and while its eating it, pet it. Keep doing that for a certain amount of time. Then, hopefully the hamster will probably let you pick it up and hold it. I did that to my guinea pigs and now they finally let me hold them.
Give him a treat. Maybe a few days later, hold your hand flat in his cage with a treat on it. He will eventually come over and eat it, but it could take a while. Don't worry! Soon, your hammy will associate your hand with good things and allow you to pick him up. Good luck! :-D
Since he is used to being tortured by little kids, he probably does not trust any humans at this time. Just take it very slowly. What I had to do because my hamster wouldn't let me hold him, was placing a shirt of mine on his cage so he could get to know me better. Now he is very friendly and cuddly. I hope this works. Good Luck!
We don't ever hold our dwarf. We hand feed him treats sometimes and pet him, but he seems to scared to hold. He is a fun pet to just watch!
Snce you have all the supplies for a hamster go trade him at a pet shop say like I wanted female or male the appiste of yours and then they can do test on him then give you a new one I hope this helped it might not work! Sorry

Hamster turns to bite me?

when i pet my hammy in the cage he turns to my finger and goes on his back. i quickly yank my finger out before he bites it. Am i over reacting? i didnt really mind at first but i think its something i would like to understand. i dont just want to leave it for a while before it becomes an un trainable problem.
~Does this turning on his back towards my finger mean he will bite if so how do i make him more comfortable with it or should i give up and not pet him in his cage?
~or is it nothing and he wont bite (theres some other reason for him turning towards me)
thankyou.
this is my first hamster, ive had him since febuary (2007)
he is a syrian/teddybear hammy
Answers:
If your hamster bites you don't yank away and cry otherwise he will learn that if he doesn't want to be held or played with all he has to do is bite. Well, as for the turning on the back problem I don't know much about. I he stands on his hind legs or squeaks that means he's upset and wants you out. If your hamster bites you that means he upset (obviously) for some reason. Whether it is that you are too rough when you handle him or too loud try to be gentle and quiet. If you want to play with him and he's sleeping, leave him alone (you wouldn't want someone to bother you if you were asleep) or tap on the cage gently and whisper to him but don't rattle it about and yell at him otherwise he will be mad. Give him some time to wake up and get ready. Hope I answered your question!
If he rolls on his back this should indicate submission. BUT he may be submitting to you and then biting to defend himself because you did not stop "attacking him" after he submitted. Stroke his belly and see what happens. It only hurts a little to be bit.
You need to establish trust by handling him gently and safely EVERY time.
sounds like you just got a bad one, call a friend who has a pet snake, and try again, i would go to a small pet shop where there is less risk of the animal having been mistreated. If you are afraid of your pets' behavior, maybe you should consider a male rat, which is the best rodent pet.
you have to handle these babies. I would get some gloves on and just hold one for at lest 1 hour a day! get him use to you and when he stops biting the glove then hold him with no glove. this takes time!
Most hamsters do bite.. never sen one that did not.
Many of my friends have had them and always seem to have that problem!
considering i have had many hamsters i do know what this means. now there are to types.the first type is playful/submissive. my hamster and guinea pigs play all the time. i supervise. but the guinea pigs come chasing after her and she gets on her back that means submissive. she is letting the guinea pig now the piggie is top animal. and she does that when she is playing to she rolls around on her back. now the second one is they nible your fingers to get to know you. wierdly enough it is true. so she/he may be getting to know you. and possibly 3 she is frightened by you. to resolve these. 1 she isn't going to bite you that is good. 2 let her mible your fingers. if she is doing what is possible she won't bite hard. like a puppy teething. if 3 hold her with gloves everyday. and when she bites hard yell ouch. so good luck
oh and TRboi that is sick biting can be fixed easily.
Sounds like a normal hamster to me. It sounds like he wasn't handled very much since he was born.
I once had a homicidal hamster. She lived a long life and was happy as long as she wasn't disturbed. If I so much as touched the cage she would flip out. My new mouse is a different story, I can play with her and pick her up and feed her by hand. She loves attention. Each one is different.
First of all, please don't listen to this person that said feed him to a snake. The hamster has to get use to you and he will warm up to you in time. I have 2 hamsters and it took them both a little while to let me handle them without worrying about getting bitten. Also, hamster bites can hurt badly, it just depends on the hamster and how threatened he feels by you. Try picking him up at his own pace or handing him a piece of food through the cage for him to begin to trust you. If it looks like he is going to bite you, then don't pick him up because he will become defensive. Eventually, you will notice that the hamster is gradually warming up to you.
Hate to say this, and some people will give me the thumbs down, but hamsters are one of the most nasty creatures I've ever worked with. I worked at a pet store, then as a vet tech, for 6 years. I refused to hold a hamster. But, work with it, carefully, to try to tame him. It is possible.
he probably will bite u ,let him bite you but be gentle when holding him. he may learn there is no danger from u and stop biting, but hamsters are really not smart enough to train. their brains are only as big as a sunflower seed.

Hamster tumors?

My brothers male dwarf hamster has a big red bump on his right leg!It looks about the size ofa dime or nickel, his leg looks alot thinner than the other. Its hard.Is it an infection or does he possibly have a tumor!(awww) Is there even such thing as hamster cancer???
Answers:
This sounds like either an abscess or a cyst - cancers would be deeper under the skin, even if benign. How clean does your brother keep the cage? Does the hamster live with cage mates? Shop around for a vet if you're worried about pricing... a lot of places vary. You do need to see one, though. If it breaks open, neosporin is safe to use, just make sure the hammy leaves it alone.
Small animals are prone to cancer, especially rats... that's why labs use them so often.
yea there is u have to take it to the vet immediatly, or 2morrow morning depending on how much u love iit lol
it could be a cyst not to much of a problembut u do need to take it to the vet
There sure is, and tumors and cancers are unfortunatly very common in hamsters, and tend to be what gets them in the end, so all I can suggest is a trip to the vets to get the right diagnosis.

Hamster tub?

I have a rubber made tub and i waas think i could make it into a new bigger cage for my hamster what would i need in order to do that? I have wood shavings and an igloo but what about the water bottle? i also plan on buying a new wheel with the money i have saved up. Thanks.
Answers:
The previous poster is correct. It is much better to save a little more money and buy a metal cage that has a wheel and water bottle included with it. Also, make sure you are using the appropriate wood shavings- some can be harmful to hamsters.
it's really better to keep a hamster in a metal cage as they can chew and gnaw on the plastic walls of a tub like the on you have and this can kill them. additionally, because a plastic tub has solid walls, it does not allow proper ventilation for the hamster. finally, it is always possible that the hamster might find a way to scramble out of the tub, because it does not have a top. in short, it's not a good idea. sorry. :(
a tub can work , it is like an aquarium. You need a wire top to keep your pet from escaping . The water bottle can often be hung with a bent clothehanger from the top edge of the tub. Get one of your parents to help bend the wire, or get a hanger made for aquariums . If the tub is to be the pets cage you may be able to put holes in it to mount the water bottle.

You need to keep the cage clean because there is limited ventilation and the fumes from the urine may build up.
It the tub had rounded edges it will be hard for the animal to chew on it , but watch for that.
People make tubs into cages all the time, they actually refer to them as Bin cages. Bin cages are perfectly safe for your little buddy, but if you see him chewing, you might need to get a different cage.
You would need to drill SMALL holes on the sides of the bin (make sure they are high enough that the hamster can't reach the holes and make them bigger) and also on the lid (or you can cut out the middle of the lid and attach wire to it).
You can get a free-standing wheel and drill 3 holes for the water bottle and the wire to hold it.
Here is a great website on how to make one:
http://www.bitterepiphany.com/bin_cage.h...
Good luck!

Hamster Trouble?

My male syberian Hamster is about 8 months old and quite big , but the query is he keeps rubbing himself against the bars of the cage or his house. And tries to squash himself into really tight spaces even though he won't fit! Any ideas? Or is this normal!
I'd be grateful for some help. Thanks everyone. x
Answers:
My teddy bear hamster does the same thing, she is a very big girl, but she just doesn't know it. She will try and fit in the smallest little spaces, but she is just far to big. I had to buy her a bigger cage, but thats just because the cage she was originally in was for a dwarf hamster. But yeah, try the toilet paper or paper towel rolls, just watch to make sure he doesn't eat to much of the roll. And you can try getting a small box, big enough for him to fit in. And cut the bottom out and a hole for him to get into it and turn it upside down in his cage. It will give him somehting bigger and studier to sleep and play in... Good luck with your hamster.
Our big pet store (Wilsons - are they a chain?) have shelves of things for different hamsters and warnings not to use some for Syberians, I guess because they grow so big.
Lots of playthings and hidey-hole gizmoes. Perhaps a treat for his birthday.
Hamsters are burrowing animals, you should get tubes for him, loo roll tubes, kitchen towel tubes, any kind of cardboard tube which the hamster can also nibble on. And cut holes into small cardboard boxes (not ones that have been stapled) for him to climb in and out of. They're busy little animals and like to be active. Always use cardboard though, if he gets stuck you can cut him out!
it is normal.hamsters tend to hide themselves in dark places.try adding tubes in their cage.or just use the center carton of a tissue roll.or try adding a few more inches of bedding.they will use the bedding to cover themselves in such a way that they would be away from light.
He is leaving his scent to prove its his. every time you clea the cage he will do this. goive him some toys and toliet roll tubes 2 play with
thats very unusual my hamsters have never done anything like that but when my serian was running around he managed to squeeze under the door u might think he cant fit but u will be amazed i would say its weird but everyones different but if stil not sure take him to the vets goodluck
Your Hamster could have some sort of mite, and he is trying to relieve the uncomfortable itching, by rubbing himself against the bars of his cage. Or he could be bored. By giving him a wheel inside the cage, he will run around on it and it will relieve boredom, as will toys too. If he continues to rub himself against the bars of his cage, then I would try bathing him in lukewarm water, with a special anti-mite wash bought from a pet shop. If he doesn't stop the behaviour, then I would recommend a trip to the vet.
I think it is normal my son's hamster used to do that I wouldn't worry about it.
Yes this is normal because hamsters like to hide in tight places.
But,you can put it a cage with just
the hamster wheel and exercise it every once in a while.
Keep in mind that hamster do like to hide in small, tight, dark places...so yes it is normal for your hamster to go in the small tubes, im sure it wouldnt go in if it couldnt get out lol.
I hope this helps you out!
Have fun!
My Syrian hamster does this to! He does that a lot but he stops after a while! It is normal!
it's mormal.he just wants to find differnt ways to get where he wants to go.dont worry it is normal

good luck!
It's normal, my hamster like to scatch herself on the bars of her cage-she also squeeze into small spaces
Yes, all hamsters love trying to escape from everywhere and exploring. Including small spaces.
I think it is normal because one of the attitudes of a hamster is that they loooooooove to go through holes, tunnels and stuff like that. He is rubbing the cage probably because it feels a little uncomfortable at the moment.
My fatty of a hamster does this she just won't learn lol!
It won't matter though and it's perfectly normal!
Get a bigger cag, sounds like the hammies bored.
Do some research on google it will tell you the same :-)

Hamster trouble?

I just got a honey hamster yesterday and he keeps sneezing. What is this from? Could it be b/c of the beding that I put in his cage, it is dusty?
Answers:
It could be. It could also be pnomonia ( not sure how to spell.). Don' t use any kind of wood/cedar bedding. I get this stuff from Walmart. It's kind of grey/brownish in color, but it expands and absorbs more. My hampster likes to make big mountains with it then bury his self inside. Any kind of wood bedding can cause respitory problems. Get it out of any a.s.a.p.
What type of bedding are you using? The hamster could be allergic.
It probably is from the bedding cedar and pine shavings can kill your hamster!! So change to Carefresh ASAP! It is the best you can get! Aspen is ok but Carefresh is the best one!!
And you might want to call a vet to mmaksure your hamster is ok
Pine and cedar bedding is very bad for hamsters as the dust particals irritate their delicate noses and lungs, so yes, this could be the problem. Change all bedding to carefresh as soon as possible. Its pulped recycled paper and is the best thing for hamsters to use. All good pet stores sell it.
Don't use pine shavings. Your cage has to be very ventaliated for pine shavings and hamsters just don't like pine shavings. Try Aspen or the recycled paper type. Either one of those should stop her from sneezing.
it could have gotten sick from the other hampsters from the store. my hampster was sick from the others
Take it to the vet, he either has an allergy or worse an upper respiratory infection. Next throw out the pine, it's very dangerous to use and is part of the problem. Wood litters cause allergies and other medical problems and death in some cases. Use a paper product litter such as Care Fresh litter. There is an extremely low incident of allergic reactions to it. We have a small animal rescue with almost 50 cages (some are our personal pets) that we only use Care Fresh with the small animals. We have had no illness or allergies associated with using Care Fresh litter.

Hamster trouble?

I just cleaned my hamsters cage and she is moving around a lot in her igloo! i am worried is there anything wrong.
Answers:
There's nothing wrong. When you clean her cage its like you moved her entire house around, so she's just taking some time to reorganize her nest the way she wants it. My hamster will spend literally hours pushing her bedding and toys around after I clean her cage. She doesn't have an igloo, but she has a box that she'll hole up in it too.
:)
wee!
Well did you take her food ut of the igloo? Then that is probably why she is probably searching for her food! There is nothing wrong with your hamster! Have fun with her!

Hamster Tricks?

I'm looking after my friend's hamster while they're on holiday, but he is pure mad all day and all night! He climbs everything and when he's in his cage he clings on to the top bars and swings monkey-bar style to the other side! Is this normal, or have I got a hyperactive hamster?
Answers:
You know with human being that theres always 'one'? You've got that in the hamster world I'm afraid. Hyperactivitly is pretty common in rodents but hey- at least its entertaining! My hamster just slept all the time :-( So yeah, just live with it!
hyperactive but normal ! lol. Iv had 2 hammys that do the same and my friends hamsters completly nuts, she climbs up to the top upsidedown, then just... lets go! hahaha there crazy!
yes this is normal, my old hamsters climbed the top of the cage also. You need to grab your hamster so it wont be mad.
Get it a mate.
its normal lol mine do that there just having fun
It's normal, my hamster sometimes do that to, but just incase you have a tall cage, put some soft tissue, tolet paper or whatever one the bottom of the cage so they wont get really hurt (not that they will). but that depends on the cages size.
Mine did that too, but by the sound of it, yours is a bit hyperactive.
Normal. Mine alway spazed out and acted crazy at night. Thats why the bars are there.
Perfectly normal. When I had hamsters, I had the back room "hamster-proofed" and let them run around the room. One used to climb up behind the back of the radiator, haul himself on to the windowsill, and then drop off again - and he used to do this two or three times in a row! Another would use me as a climbing frame.
this is completely normal my daughters hamster is the same she spins in her wheel all night and we cant get to sleep so we bought a silent wheel but its completely normal
Thats very normal, theyre so funny!
mine always did that too, i think it's normal for them to be hyperactive, just sit, relax and enjoy their "monkey" tricks!
Hey Hunny
*Lol* That is completely normal, you made me laugh, hehe.Dont worry hun hes just having fun.:-)
yes this is normail they love to climb as they would in the wiled they do what ever they can to keep them ocupied othere wise they would just be bord
no its normal
no this is normal for hamsters, they should sleep during the day ( in theory) and active at night.

Hamster tricks?

can hamsters do tricks or not? and if they can then witch ones? if they can't.. then why?
Answers:
Evidently, yes:

^Look at the bottom of the page for that one.
They aren't quite as intelligent, or as social, as some pets like dogs or rats, so they can't usually learn advanced tricks like those animals can--or it takes a lot longer to learn.
they probly can like walking along the wire.
but the ones who can are probly specly trained!
do be to mean trying
my hamster knows her name...Onetime she got out of her cage. and I yelled her name.Surpised she got out and then a few sec later she came out from behind the desk and came to me.
not really, although they love to hide and chew things like toilet paper rolls empty of course. and run in those exercise balls.

Hamster tricks?

what are some tricks you can teach a hamster?
Answers:
you can teach your hamster:
~how to come
~how to stand
~how to run (in his wheel)
~ how to follow you when walking
~how to eat when you say eat
~how to stop doing something when you tap him on the head gently and say 'no'.
I have a hamster named Furby. Hope this helps!
I have heard that they can be taught to come to their names!
You can teach them to come when you call! You can also teah your hamster to stand! You get a treat and let your hamster see it and then lift it up and say stand! Do that over and over and over again and then at the last time you do it and give him the treat! Eventually your hamster will stand when you say stand!
sleep eat poop!
Hamsters can learn their name, to where you say it and they come running.
Also, with mine, if you give them a treat everyday at the same time... they will be awake and waiting for their treat after a couple of weeks. My hamster wakes up every morning when I have breakfast and I give her some of it.
you can teach it to stand and sit. done it bfre. Using food to lure them of coz.
I taught my hamster to sit, stay, come, jump, and lay down. It took me about a year! It was worth it.

Hamster treat how many can i feed it?

i want to give my hamster some seeds salted how much should i give it without it depending it as a food source
Answers:
It recommend that you don't feed your hamster (or gerbil!) salted seeds. But, you can buy some seeds (that aren't salted!). You can probably give your hamster like 3-5 seeds each day! I hope that this answers your question! thanks and good luck!
DO NOT feed your hamster salted seeds! If you wanted a hamster in the first place, you should've learned about them first. Unsalted! Give them small servings of fruits or veggies ONCE a week.
Are the seeds specially for hamsters? Not for humans?
It should normally say on the packet how many to give, if unsure just give 1 or 2 a day.
never give your hamsters salty or oily foods.try giving them veggies and dried fruits so that they would have a nice diet.
I would give your hamster one. But not everyday a treat should be every once in a while NOT everyday! If you feed your hamster a treat everyday i would give your hamster a little bit of vegtables! If you don't know what fruits and veggies they can have email me! If you feed your hamster a treat everyday it will always want a treat and will eat less of his food that he should! Oh but you are sure that the food is for hamsters aren't you?

Hamster travel?

i was wondering if u could take your hamster cage put him/her in the car (with the seat belt on) would he get car sick or anything im asking this because im going to be on the road for sumtime so is it good or not good and there isn't any good hamster traveling bags because all those bad comments scared me xP
Answers:
You can, if you REALLY want to, take your hamster on road trips, but it would be rather hard on the pet. I say just leave it w/ someone responsible to care for it. hamsters are escape artists. be careful. if you do take him/her on a road trip, you can accommodate it w/ a simple little carrier box w/ holes at the top or with a cage not made out of glass, but one that is a wire cage. The wire cage would be a better choice considering you'll be on the road for quite some time. Make sure that your hamster has food and water available to it. You probably should not keep it in the cage all day. You should make sure it gets enough socialization w/ you. Make sure it's cage has a soft bedding in it. Wood chips are perfect.
You say you can't find good travel case? Well, if the cage is big, make sure it has lots of soft bedding, just in case the roads get bumpy.
Other than that, the hamster should be fine.
i think so unless your going on bumpy roads
probably, unless the road is really really bumpy
well my hamsters traveled from Romania to Italy by car and one of them was pregnant... everything was OK... no problem!
It should be ok as long as your not doing any offroading or anything like that.
I would not he probably would be very scared and it will be very stressed he/her will probably bite you if you hold him. Um are you just getting your hamster? If you are you shouldn't hold your hamster for about 24 hours or touch him/her or even pet him/her!! He/her should be in a very quiet place and in a dark cool place and should not be in direct sunlight!!
If you have any hamster questions plz e-mail me!!!! He should have some hamster food in the box when he/her is in the car and the food and water is ready in the cage!!
I moved from CT to Va and my hamster survived the ride in the car. 10 hours. She was fine slept pretty much the whole time and was not stressed out at all and the car was loaded with stuff too. As long as its not real hot she/he will be fine.
We take our two mice with us on roadtrips. We usually take the water bottle out of the cage while riding because every time we hit a bump, it leaks. Our mice usually just ride the wheel or sleep, just like at home.
Just make sure that you don't leave them in the car, just like you wouldn't with other pets.
if you make sure the cage strapped in your hamster will be fine i go on raod trips all the time in the mountains. Also you shouldnt get a travling bag because your hamster could get smashed instead stick with a small hard sided cage.
As long as you don't go on bumpy roads.

Hamster training?

I have had my hamster seince febury and i can't even pet her! When i touch her she turns her back and tries to bite me what should i do!
I used to be able to pick her up but i guess i didn't play with her enough or something
Answers:
ummm...I think ur hamster hates u. . . No, just kidding! I would start over from stage one. Let her get used to you before you try to pick her up again. Lay ur hand at the bottom of the cage, and just let her smell it, and explore it. Do that for a week or two. *Dont try to touch her for the next few weeks.*kep laying ur hand at the bottom of the cage for a while. A little longer each day. Once she gets used to you, she will crawl onto your hand when you put it in her cage. The next time she crawls over ur hand, slightly pick her up off the ground. Then immediatly tell her good girl and give her a treat. Cntinue like this for 3 weeks. Everytime she crawls onto ur hand, lift her a little higher. Then she should no ur scent, and be your friend again! Did that make any sense??
let it free and buy a new one
you should flick her on the nose when she does that and then get her out and play with her everyday for about an hour.Sure enough she will let you hold her.
Place a toilet paper tube in her cage. When she crawls in it, safely remove the tube %26 her from the cage. Gently place her in your hands %26 hold her. Also allow her to climb all over you %26 safely wander about on a bedsheet placed on the floor. Do this several times a day.
Eventually, she will let you come near her in her home. Always allow her to sniff you from the front. Do not try reaching her from behind. She will probably get more scared.
Some hamsters become territorial in regards to their home %26 she may feel a bit threatened.
Edited: Start right away %26 tell whoever will be caring for her as well.
Ok..
Some female hamsters get like this. Aside from suggested by everyone else, you may want to go and see a vet. There are a few conditions a hamster can get with make them nippy. Also, you're not going to like this, but see if she actually does bite you.
We had a hamster when I was younger who would go on her back, and seem like she was trying to bite. However if you managed to get your hand around her firmly, she'd not bite at all, and was fun to hold after a while.
Above all else, she's a hamster. Some don't like to be held. Some female hamsters become aggresive when they reach sexual maturity. Some people recommend having them spayed.. but this is a risky operation for your little hamster. In truth, would you want something 20 or 30 times your size to pick you up?
Good luck.

Hamster toys?

anyone have any good hamster toys their hamster enjoys? my hamster doesnt really like his run around ball and i was wondering if anyone had tried the play pens or the critter trails? i like letting him run around on my bed but its almost impossible to keep track of him hes so fast! and he wont hesitate to jump right off my bed..any ideas? thanks!
Answers:
My hamster really likes this ice cream shaped chew. It comes in three flavors: Chocolate, vanilla, and banana(or strawberry, not sure). She will strut around with one in her mouth when I give it to her. She always brings it to her nest.
I've also had luck with the grassy-reedy type round nest ball thing. I don't know the name of it, sorry. For some reason she finds it fascinating to walk in and out of it.
And you can never go wrong with a running wheel!
go to petsmart and get the little ball thing that lets them run around in. u can easyly keep track of him or her that way.
HAMSTER BALL!!!!
they love wheels and chew blocks. You said hes fast, so hed love the wheel. My hamster is walking around on my keyboard right now. critter trails is fine.
If you go to www.petco.com, they have a hamster fence that lets you connect the fence together. I have it for my two dwarf hasmters. They love it! It's really fun for them! PLUS! You can add it to your hamster's cage if ya want! Check it out! Good Luck! I hope that this helps! GOOD LUCK!
You must have a wheel in any hamster's cage. Hamsters in the wild would run for literally miles at night, searching for food. They have an innate need to run, and run alot, and will spend a couple of hours a night in their wheel running.
I too had much success with those grassy-reedy type nest balls. All of my hamsters loved them. Make sure you get one that is the appropriate size for your hamster.

Hamster toys?

i want to make home made hamster toy what are some i can make. give directions if needed
Answers:
Maybe some paper towel roll after the paper is finished. Hamsters like to hide and chew so maybe that would be good. Toilet paper roll is another good one. You don't want to give them any wood products that you don't know have been treated and can poison your hamster.
Try to strip the bark off any wood you use from the garden and dry it for several days after washing over a heater. You can create a lovely smooth, clean branch by stripping off the bark. Hamster and gerbils also love everything made of cardboard, including egg cartons, cardboard tubes and more. He is likely to chew these until they are little more than a pile of shredding, but he will get valuable exercise from this activity and will use much of it for bedding material.
wood. wood is the best toy for hamsters. they chew on it, and it keeps their teeth healthy. maybe a little house for her to put in her cage. or a wheel, if you dont already have it.
Give them toilet paper tubes. It is good for their teeth and they love to crawl through them and play a game kinda like peek-a-boo!! lol
just give them toilet paper and they will play
give your hamster a box and it will be thrilled just with that
Hamster Hideout:
Tape paper roll tubes and paper towel tubes together and your hamster will just LOVE this hideout.
Birdy? NO! Hammie:
Get some bird toys and hang them from the cage bars. He'll love it!
Playgym/Excerise Time:
Buy another clear cage (a large sized one) and make a playgym for him with bird toys, dangly things (but not bracelets or necklaces), and an extra wheel.

** Remember: hamsters love to explore in tunnels!!

Hamster toys and hamster food?

I do not want hedge hogs well I have to go with hamsters because I have been with them all my life and they are so great and I have a room where the cats can stay and they cant go under the crack at the bottom of the door. Some things that my hamsters has always loved is on a certain day i take out all the food and hide little treats everywhere and they would run around finding it! I also got my hamster a play pen with some stuff to climb and i put some food around and they loved to find them! Anotherr thing i would do is hide some food on my cluthes and they would run around on my back and try to the food! I also loved to make mazes for them and they loved them! So use your imagination and you can come up with some stuff that they will really like!
Chinese dwarfs are cute and smaller than the russian ones, but petco doesnt have them.
Teddy bears were my favorite.
Toy wise all he needs is a wheel, ball, and somewhere to hide, like those igloos

Did you try toilet rolls? Most hamster love it but my hamster is picky and doesn't really like it! Do you have a plastic ball for him to run around in? Hamsters really love them! Also my hamster loves toilet paper he rips it up and makes his bed out of it! But he are the betterthings you can do! You can make a big maze with tons of food in the maze and his favorite at the end! Another thing is hide some food around on you and let your hamster crawl over you to get it! And every 3 days i give my hamster some cabbage and he loves it ( it might not sound much but now he always waits for me every 3 days ) Give him a cetain kind of treat every week or twice a week just not to much treats though! And another thing you can do is take out a the food and then let your hamster see the treat and then quickly hide it and he will try and find it ( just make sure it isn't really that hard) Anything with food would be fun for a hamster! Oh and another thing you could do is set up a playpen with some climbing toys and put some food in the play pen on the climbing stuff and he will enjoy having to try and find his food! Another thing you could do is instead of putting his food in the food dish is spinke it everywhere and it will be so much fun for you hamster because he will have to find his food! Hope this helped!
toilet paper rolls work good they like to chew and run thre them and make sure he has a wheel for exercise
throw a carrot or any other cold vegtable in there.
lol, they will be occupied for hours
or a old toliet paper roll.they will chew and chew
I had two girls hamsters and I bought them the Nylabone dog bone. They are for dogs but they are great for hamsters too. They are completely edible unlike rawhide no larger pieces for them to choke on. They have meat flavors which might not be good but they have a peanut butter one which my hamsters loved and they have a chocolate flavor. It helps for their teeth and is a toy. I put the peanut butter one in the cage and the two of them finished it in a week. They also have a food dish made of compressed alfalfa they can eat out of it and chew on it.
my guinea pig likes to chew on/ play tug- o-war/ wrestle with a toilet paper tube. make sure that there is no excess paper, or more importantly glue on it though. you can also hide food in it.
I make a play place. get some toilet paper rolls, a wheel and some kind of bed or igloo. Then put it on newspaper and play with your hamster there.
Homemade Hamster Toys

Do you want your hamster to have a fun toy(s) to play with? Then your in the right spot not only do you not have to pay alot but you get to make them yourself! Right from your home, using things from around the house!

Lets get started

picture #1

Tubes
You can make tubes by using paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls. You can simply hook them together like shown in picture #1. You can make as many tubes hooked togeather as you like. Once you get them together just tape and your done!
You may even want to make alot hooked together like a maze and have your hamster go through them.

Hamster House

Another thing you can make from cardboard is a house. All you need is 6 peices of cardboard cut out and tape or hot glue gun.
You can design it yourself, but you can look at my picture #2 and see how I have done it.
I did not give the size here, because the sizes of hamsters will vairy. But make sure you make the door the right size so the hamster can fit in the door and the house is the right size for the hamster.
You can see in the picture the dotted lines are where you cut.
Once you get all the pieces cut out you can tape or glue together.
You can decorate it if you want. But do not use paint for this, because most hamsters are probably going to chew it up. But don't worry you can always make another. I think it is good for them to chew it up. It is somthing for them to do. So they don't get bored. Or they might even make it a place where they sleep.

Hamster toilet habits?

We recently bought a new wire cage for our dwarf hamster which is more open than the other cage. We have noticed that she never uses one of the corners of the cage for her toilet like she did before, she now goes in her house we have noticed on cleaning the cage. Could it be because there is no hiding place to go to. I have thought about getting a second house to see if she uses that instead. Any help is greatly appreciated
Answers:
hamsters once they get used to there new cage, will start going to the bathroom in one spot. They kinda sniff to were it is soiled. next time you clean the cage clean out her house but keep a little of the soiled bedding and move it to a place were you want her to pee. It sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.
hope it works for you!
I bet she's not flushing either huh?
Yeah, my hamster did the same thing, it went in the house more often than anywhere else. It was a real mess, and the only way we could fix it was by moving him into a glass aquarium with wood chips for the floor. Then he used the rest of the floor again.
Hi John,
Your hamster is just weeing where she feels safe and secure as its a new cage, my hamster used to wee in his bed, but for the last 8 months or so he now wee's just outside the bedroom area, so dont worry, it is common for hamsters to wee very close to where they sleep. Its lazyness more than anything aswell!!
Make sure for now that you are doing a quick clean up of the bedding area each day. Dont move her into another cage like an aquarium. They are so restricting, and i personally think, a little cruel. She will get used to the cage, and will enjoy it as the wire will allow her to climb, see, and have fresh air ventilating around her all the time, unlike aquariums.
you can buy hamster litter that you can put in a corner or where ever you want your hamster to go to the toilet. There is something about the smell that makes them want to go there
Some hamsters are just different and there is nothing that you can do about it..my hamster uses the wheel as a potty!!
Hope I answered your question!!
Well she could want privacy so thats why she goes in her house. Made a change in her surroundings might have effect her and what she is a custom to. So I would try another house just to see if she choose one over the other.Good luck
What do you think - that hamsters are shy? They pee and poop where they like but it is strange that she is using the house. Get her another one by all means since she seems to fancy using that one as bathroom. They like keeping their food and toilet separate.

Hamster tips?

I just got a hamster today. My friend had a hamster and she had 12 babies and he was selling them. It's a few weeks old i belive ( 2?? ) anyways, it keeps chewing on the bars of the cage. and we bought these thin peices of wood that are meant for hamsters to chew on. and the hamster is not even intrested in the peice of wood. it keeps chewing on the bars. is this okay? if it isn't, how am i supposed to get my hamster to chew the peice of wood??
Answers:
that is completely normal! it just wants to chew stuff. and if a woood block dosen't work try buying those chewing rocks, the kind of thing that is like a bubbled rock which is white. thy like chewing those things! the strange thing is that my hamsters keep chewing on the wires i used to keep the rock on the cage??!
I think your Hamster is different,
My haster used to chew on his cage bars too,
I gave mine chew stick and he chew then to peices,
but he like the chewy treats more,
you should try chewy treats instead,
Its fine, they instinctively chew on everything. He is just testing his surroundings and it will calm down soon. He has a new house and has to "break it in" so to speak. Mine has gnawed on his bars, food dish, timber hut, and I foiled his attempts on the water bottle, but the holder looks war-torn Ha.
all hamsters like dislike different things. i bought some wood blocks for my hamster so he wouldnt bite the cage. well he has no interest in them. so his food bowl is completely gone. you should put in a toiltet paper ring. he likes to go in there and chew the heck out of it.
it is not good for the hamster to chew on the bars because it can cause lots of problems but maybe you can try putting a carrot or an apple piece on the cage bar where the hamster normally chews the bar it worked for my hamsters hope it works for yours. oh the chewing of the bars can cause severe brain damage and teeth problems so that is why you should try to stop it.
the bar chewing can be caused by boredom so put plenty of toys in the cage and don't forget to play with your hamster
but if your hamster still chews on the bars you could try moving it to an aquarium type cage
hope all of that helps
My hamsters would do the same thing. But they would chew on those pieces of wood for awhile but never finish them. But one thing my hamsters loved that you should try, is when you finish a roll of toilet tissue, make sure it has no tissue left on it and stick it in there. My hamsters would tear that up in a day! You can make it more fun if you cut a hole out in the middle and they can stick their head out and go through it like a tunnel too!
At petco they have small cobbs of corn. They come three in a pack and they are cheap. My hamster likes to chew on them. However, he chews on the cage too. I think he wants to escape. But, he has been with us for over a year and he isnt harmed in any way by chewing the cage.
The hamster just wants out. Try to give it a lot of time on the hamster ball, and make sure it has a wheel and some fun things like tunnels to play in, and a large enough cage to be happy. Take it out and hold it when it does that. The hamster will chew on the type of wood it likes, but this likely has nothing to do with it chewing on the bars. But, as for the wood, try a few kinds til you find out what your hamster likes to chew on. Also give carrots sometimes (never give lettuce). Also as an aside, only use aspen wood because cedar and pine have dangerous oils. Aspen is cheap at Target and some other pet stores.
My hamster used to chew on the bars of it's cage too. Every time you catch it chewing on them get it off the bars and leave. It will quit for good after a few days. When your hamster is close take the piece of wood and kinda rub it on it's nose.
It is comp[letely normal . My hamster di this all the time too. I guess he likes the bars more than the wood.

Hamster time?

one of my hamster is 2 nd a half years old. hes so weak and looks like his hair is thinning. he can hardly run like before nd moves slowly. i feel bad because i want to hold him but hes always sleeping until like 11 at nite. so i have to wake him up to spend time with him. wen i put him in his running ball he doesnt run in it. he sleeps in it. should i just leave him alone untill he wakes up?? then i would hardly ever get time withhim because i sleep before he wakes up
Answers:
he is quite old and slowing down a lot which is normal.
I would try the ball only once a week and take him out if he doesnt run in it .
At this stage I would wake him up carefully with a treat so you can hold him , and feed him treats. He may also like apple juice or a flavored cool aid. Then put him back in his cage to let him sleep. If he doesnt wake up easily then just leave him sleep.
Keep his bed area really clean and make sure he can get his food and water easily. He might not want to climb anymore.
Prepare yourself for his death. He might live quite a while yet but eventually it will happen. He has had a good life with you, so dont be too sad.
I think this may be coming upon "the big sleep." Spend some time with him saying good bye and then just let him sleep. Maybe he'll recover.
honey...um...its hard to tell you this but it might be the time in its life where it goes to hamster heaven.i think you should wait until he wakes up and then spend a lot of time with him.Maybe you should think about getting a new hamster.sorry.
Hamsters generally live between the age 0f 2-3 years and in some rare cases 4 or 5. Your hamster is well into his old age, and is naturally slowing down. Dont feel bad or upset. he is not sick or in pain, he is just a little lazier and needs more rest.
You have done a good job of taking care of him, lots of hamsters dont get to 2 and half. My hamster is 16 months old, and even at this age he likes to sleep most of the night as well as the day. I do sometimes wake him up with the promise of treats, and as he is a very good natured hamster he is fine with this.
Your hamster is old and needs peace and quiet so it would be best to leave him be, but when he does wake up take the opportunity to take him out of the cage for a stroke and to hold him. Dont place him i his exercise ball if he no longer has the energy to use it, just curl up on a chair with him on your lap and stroke and talk to him. Give him small treats of fresh fruit and veg or yogurt drops. Relax and enjoy the time you have with him x
Hamsters are nocturnal animals. They prefer to sleep all day and make noise all night. Older hamsters need their rest, so play with him only when he wakes up.
spend oodles of time with him he might being going to the big cage in the sky

Hamster Teeth Problems..?

My hamsters teeth are a little longer than the vet would like them. We called the vet and they want 65.00 to clip them... Can I do this with a nail clipper? I know you can with rabbits..PLEASE HEEELP =]
Answers:
There are plenty of 'chew toys' on the market for hamsters. Wooden blocks... grinding wheels... fruitwood twigs ( my hammy loved those ! )... If provided the proper tools, the hamster will take care of the problem themself. Keep in mind that it takes a little time for them to wear the teeth down to a safe length. I would NOT clip them. Firstly the charge amount is ridiculous... and secondly, they are not like dog or cat claws... Imagine someone taking a pair of clippers to your own teeth... not very pleasant sounding, is it ?
Put some hardwood in his cage to chew, a small piece of ply wood works good.
i think you should let the vet do this u wouldn't want to hurt the hamster they r 2 different animals
No, don't do them yourself! People shouldn't trim rabbit's teeth themselves either. Just call around vets and find one that'll do it cheaper.
Chalice
Does the hamster have a grinding stone in the cage?
They are available @ the pet store, and allow the little devil to chew his teeth down to his preferred length.
Animals (when given the chance) will usually take care of themselves for the most part.
Yes, I clip my rabbits teeth (only if needed) with a pair of very small wire cutter type, with the spring back handle, however this may still be to big for a hamster, if it is not taken care of the teeth will grow into the brain, nail clippers may be to awckward and large also. Make sure it always has wood to chew on.
i have seen responses on here where owners have done, but as a hamster owner myself i would not risk it. They are delicate creatures and i would not want to harm my pet in any way. Check out several other vets in your local area and ask for a specialist vet for small animals as they will charge less, or check vet quotes in general. Either way, dont risk your hamsters health by doing something you are not trained or qualified in please!!
What I would do is go to a pet store or daily store were pet things are sold and look for corn cobs my hamsters love them it keeps there teeth at a good size it also keeps them non sharp

Hamster teeth problem?

srry for posting a lot im bored but i also want this question solve
my hamster biting the metal bar cage because of his teeth and i know what else can i let him bite on that is safe
Answers:
go to a petstore! look at the slection of wood chips and toys for them. and also when your done with paper towel and toilet paper rolls, pu them in the cage. they LOVE those.
good luck
Let him chew on most varieties of...woodchip
Try going to the pet supply store and getting something inexpensive for your hamster to chew on. My friend used to give her hamster treats, and it didnt have any problems.
Dont give it anything stringy or any type of rope, because the hamster could chew through it and end up swallowing the strands, which could be potentially unhealthy.
If you do give it treats, dont give it too many, because that could be unhealthy too. Good luck with your hamster :]
Hamsters' teeth are continually growing and are naturally tinted yellow. This hamster is keeping it's teeth short by chewing Keep some chew sticks or pieces of hard dog biscuit in the cage; the gnawing will keep the teeth from being over-grown. If your pet should have one of its teeth chipped, it can be trimmed with nail scissors. I strongly suggest that you ask your vet for help. Once Taco's front teeth were badly uneven and I thought he needed veterinarian care, but the next week they were perfectly even. It is normal for your hamster teeth to be yellow, or a light brown in color. It is also normal for their breath to smell like tuna fish (yuck!). However, if they're teeth get very long, take your hamster to a vet immediately for its' teeth to be trimmed. If you don't, they may starve to death or they're teeth could grow through their head.

HI! It is ok for your hamster to chew on the bars, but you should buy some wood bars so their bones in their teeth can stay strong. Go to Petco or Petsmart so you can buy some. I hope I helped!
I have always given my rodents dog bones. It sounds weird, but I read it in a Mouse book once- and they love it. And it has protein in it. And it's rock hard, so it kept their teeth low, which was good, because they never bothered with those wooden blocks you are suppose to put in their cage.
Hamsters teeth are always growing, go to the pet store and buy him a chew toy or log to chew on. Mine love the ones with treats in the center, you can also try putting a a paper towel roll in his cage they love to shred those!
hope this helps a little
K.A
You can get a dog bone for them to chew on or there are chew toys for them at a pet store.
Good Luck

Here are the things that you need:
Bedding= to keep your hamsters cage nice and soft! To also soke (sorry don't know how to spell that!), urine and poop.
Food: well, to feed your hamster of course!
Food Bowls: To keep your hamster's food in!
Water bottle: to keep your hamster's water in.
Treat: rewarding your hamster with treats, or, for every other day snacks!
Chew toys: Chew toys, such as log branches (sold at your local pet store!), help keep a hamsters teeth from getting too long!
Cage: To keep your hamster in! If you are planning on getting a dwarf, then, I would recommend getting a cage that is only 1 level, or a terrarium is a good idea too! But, If you are planning on getting a syrian, golden, teddy bear ect. hamsters, then I would recommend getting a cage that has tubes, and that is more then 1 level.
Toys: so that your hamster can play on them! your local pet store should have a few toys to pick out from!
Wheel: If the hamster cage that you decide to get (a terrarium), then you need to get a wheel, that ALL pet stores should have that aren't connected to a cage.
I believe that this is all! I hope that this answers your question(s)! If you have anymore questions about hamsters, you can email me at: pethelper4@yahoo.com! Thanks, and good luck!
Avoid the cedar bedding -- it's really common, and really popular, but because it's so aromatic, it can cause respiratory distress in the hamsters.
Make sure they have something hard and wooden to chew on -- rodents teeth continue to grow forever -- if they don't chew really hard stuff to keep them the right length, they'll grow, and then they won't be able to eat.
Use a hanging water bottle, they work really well, and as long as the hamster can reach it, it'll use it.
Make sure it has something to exercise and play with -- a wheel (without spokes) and maybe some wooden boxes to climb in and out of -- it's in a friggin' cage, how exciting can that be?
Most foods made for hamsters or rodents will be ok -- they're usually hard -- nuts, seeds, dried corn, that kind of stuff. It'll help a little with the teeth, but not enough. You could supplement the diet with things like little pieces of carrot or something fresh (not meat, obviously).
They make wooden fruit chew sticks -- hamsters seem to be fond of them, for the most part -- especially if you put just a tiny bit of penut butter on the end of one.
just get him things to get him exercised and happy like the little hamster ball, something he might like to chew on or a little hut.
if you buy a crittertrail cage at petsmart or petco, it comes with the water bottle and food dish. other than that you need bedding, i use super shavin's, and food, and an exercise ball.

Hamster suddenly freezing in motion??

my hammy just like completely froze? i put her in my hands and kept her warm and put her water bottle in her mouth and a few mins l8er was complete back 2 normal...wat happened?
Answers:
If its a female hamster then she may of been in heat which is where a female hamster is repetitive to a male hamster when they want to mate. If her tail was up in the air and she stood still then she was definitely in heat. My 2 female hamsters are like that when they go in to heat. I use to pick them up and then they would just freeze in my hand with there tail up in the air and then after they would go back to normal. But if its a male hamster then it could have a problem and you should see the vet as soon possible, because if it keeps on then there could be something wrong with it. Only applys to the male hamster.
Hope it helps
Hamster can be very heavy sleepers and could have just been asleep.
sometimes thats a response to a threat. Its like they think , here I am completely still, so you cant see me , I am just a lump, dont eat me .
probably fell asleep. its fine!
they think that u can not see them.did something frighten ur hammy like a noise or something?if so then that is why but my hammies do that to so it's normal no worries=).

hope i helped!
I had a hamster that would do that. It seemed to be something that she did when she was scarred. For instance, she did it a lot when someone new tried to pick her up. She was always fine within a few minutes.
My hamster does that too, they just get frightened by a sudden movement around you.
they do that when startled.

Hamster suddenly bites?

My hamster that I got last Friday has always been sweet and never biting. But suddenly last night he's been biting me (drawing blood!) every time I reach into his cage. It might be because he's hungry (he runs out of food fast and I don't always immediately refill it) or I'm startling him. It happened twice last night and once today. How do I make him stop biting?
Answers:
well, in my experience with hamsters i suggest to take a look whats bothering him like he hurt himself restlessness injury etc.
but it also could be the way you try to pick him up you might have startled him in a manner that he turns on his defense mode by biting. Check out the way you pick him up .Heres the proper way : yes yes,Hamsters have a bit of a reputation for biting, but biting is mainly a result of stress or fright. Consistently calm and gentle handling, along with a little bribery (offer them a favorite food while handling) will generally overcome any timidness or nipping tendencies. Also, a hamster that is under stress due to an improper environment, being disturbed too often or during the day, excess noise, etc. may be more prone to nipping. Work on taming and handling only after the hamster has emerged from his or her nest on his own - waking up a hamster is a fairly sure way to make him/her grumpy!Taming requires time and patience. At first, allow you hamster time to become accustomed to his new environment. Once the hamster seems calm, start spending more time around his/her cage and quietly talk to the hamster to get it used to your voice. As the hamster becomes comfortable with your presence, start offering some favorite tidbits (perhaps sunflower seeds, or bits of raisin or other dried fruits) by hand, and once the hamster is happily taking treats from your fingers you can start to try to pick up your hamster. Let the hamster walk onto your hand, then start trying to gently scoop the hamster into your hands. The time for this progression varies, especially depending on the age of the hamster. Your hamster may quickly accept being picked up, or it may take a month or more.
ALSO....
How to Pick Up a Hamster
The best way to pick up a hamster is cupped in the palm of your hand with the other hand over its back to prevent it jumping off your hand (and possibly getting injured). Especially at first, it is best to hold your hamster just above your lap or some other soft surface in case it falls or jumps. Let the hamster crawl from hand to hand and it should gradually become more comfortable with handling.

hope this helps
You can't exactly "make" an animal stop biting. If you are taking care of him properly, and he isn't under high levels of stress, then if it something you are doing wrong yourself. Hamsters are nocturnal and they sleep during the day, as you know. Whenever I reach into a hamsters cage or pick them up while they are sleeping, I first wake them up by taking something soft and touching them, so they aren't so startled when I go and reach for them. If you think he may be hungry, then fill his food bowl in the morning and then again at night. Also make sure he has fresh water.
Actually because his hungry or as you said you got him last friday he might not yet comfortable with his new enviroment!! Give him some time to adjust and once or twice a day you can handle him and give him enough food! It all depends of how you take care of animals!! They are all different they are like human they need time to adjust!! Don't worry after you do that it will be a pleasure having a hamster! Trust me! FOr more email me @ lilcolle_dbest@yahoo.com! Good Luck
well maybe he is hungry (always refill hamsters bowls immediately, or put more in his bowl). he mite b under stress or not used to the environment give him time.
Don't be tempted to over feed him just because he's biting! Do you have a brother or sister etc who may have handled him, perhaps they may have been a bit rough. Or he could just be in mating season, they'll be most aggresive then.
Did you accidently mishandle him or frighten him at all? He may be scared of you if you have (i'm not saying you would, you obviously care if you posted this!)

Hamster stories?

All we hear are the questions on hamsters that bite and are aggresive. Do any of you own really cute, lovable, social hamsters? I have a one year old syrian male and we adore him! He is a rascal who has so far chewed his way through our sofas, my husbands 拢130 jeans, and escaped for 10 days and survived to tell the tale!! But he never bites and adores human company. Tell me your experiance of owning a hamster.

I used to have a hamster named Penny, she would scoot the bedding under the wheel until she could climb to the top of the wheel then move the lid until she could get out of the cage. I was watching tv one night and I saw something scurry across the floor I thought we had a mouse, but turned out it to be Penny who earned the nickname Houdini.
My neice had a lovable hamster called Jasper. Unfortunately the outside door was left open one day and he escaped. Her Mum told her he'd gone off with Stuart Little in his car ! So no tears.
my hamster is a comedian !, he wakes up to see what the comotions is about and loves to clean. He has cute bedie eyes and his paws are so soft and cute ! BUT hes is SO STRONG !! we put him ontop of his cage and because it has bars he grabs hold of them and its hard to get him off its so cute !! ^^
he poops on me
my first hamster was 6 years ago. i begged my parents SO! much for a hamster and they kept saying no. then i begged and begged and they would finally let me have one.i bought the hamster and named it hamtaro lol. the cage wasn't that big but he was active in it.one day i see him doing back flips and i was like...omg! how cool. then i decided to teach him more tricks so i thought him to pee where i wanted him to(it took 3 weeks) then like 2 months later he was big! so i had to buy a bigger cage and more toys. he escaped out of his cage once and i grounded him by blowing in his face for 10 seconds and took his toys for about 2 hours.6 months passed and hamtaro knew how to shake hands,do flips, run, stand on 2 legs, speak(squeak),jump for food, and stay on my shoulder.
then a year passed and he died because when i was moping he was out of his cage and then started sort of licking the mop and 2 days later he died :(. but he left 2 kids though lol.i bought him pregnant by mistake and now his hammys will soon have more hammys and so on.lol
I'm such a good parent.
I had a hamster named buddy for 2 and a half years one day i woke up and he couldn't open his eyes and the next day he couldn't move any thing but his head and the next day he could only move his eyes and the next morning i woke up he was dead i ran downstairs crying(not that I'm a cry baby)i picked him up a couple of hours later and he was struggling for air but after a few hours later he was dead and we buried him in the back yard and put some flowers around him after a couple of hours that day i went and got two more and ones a boy and ones a girl and i think the girl is pregnant now i still miss buddy but at least i have to hamsters named sharkey and sky baby well bye
