Put some food and water a foot or two from where he went into the wall. If he can, he will come out when he's hungry. Hamsters don't normally live in holes, so once he is out, I think he will stay out unless he's scared back into the hole.

Try to get between him and the hole and move slowly when you approach him.
actually your hamster will not leave the room, the best thing to do is to put food on the floor and approach it slowly, don't scare the little one if you don't want to be accidentally bitten, make sure that no cats in the room
He will probably be active at night, and unless you plan on a stakeout in different part of the house each night... Maybe try some live traps? Or if you're in no big rush, just set out food and sooner or later you will catch him out and about.
I lost my rat once, and eventually heard her scrabbling around a couple days later and caught her then ;)
Good luck!
And don't worry about him starving as I'm sure he will be able to find crumbs and whatnot (unless you have a cat, in which case you should probably keep em outside) =)
This way has always worked for me, close off the room where you lost it(or whatever room you believe it to be in) and put a trail of treats leading to its cage that is lying down , top towards the wall, and just watch tv and occasionally look over. When you see it going towards its cage, make sure you have a box at hand, and put it over it to capture it. Then Open the top of the box with scissors and grab it. Or if the hamster goes all the way into the cage, just tip the cage right side up, and youre done!
