Hedgehog bad attitude?

I just recently got a hedgehog and he was very shy at first then i played with him alot and he started coming out of his shyness and was more of my type of animal and i fell in love with him, but all the sudden he got this mean streak and i have no clue what happened but he started biting and puffing up all the time and does not even let any one touch him. So i was wondering what do i do to get the hedgehog to act the way he did when i got him?
Answers:
There could be a number of different reasons he could be acting this way. Are you using any kind of scented soaps/perfumes/etc that you didn't use when you first got him? One thing I've learned about hedgehogs is that they pick up on new scents and sometimes they don't like them. My oldest hedgehog did the same exact thing because my wife had used a new scented soap. Changing the scent usually does the trick. There could be a medical issue as well, especially if they have mites. Temperature plays a role at times. Make sure the room is not too cool or real warm. That could make your hedgehog cranky. There could also be possibility it may be the time of day you're handling your hedgehog. If its early in the day or afternoon they tend to get cranky from being woke up.
My best advice to you is start at the top of the list of possibilities and narrow it down. I don't think there's anything badly wrong with your hedgehog. Usually it turns out to be something simple
Sounds like your hedgehog had a bad experience. It could be medical though, if he has something wrong with him, he could be pissed that you're buggin him. Might be in pain or whatever. I'm no hedgehog expert but thats how it works with dogs.
Maybe when it was out of your site someone else bothered it while u were gone
Have you done anything differently? Got any new pets? Oscar was never shy, he was always a very loveable hedgie so it is hard for me to say... Biting is very, very rare in hedgies. I think something must have occured to make him like this towards you.. or he may be poorly.
