i just bought 2 little hamsters. they are very small. one is gray and the other is white. can i buy a cage in which i can put both of them in. do you have any ideas on a good cage for both of them and do i need to know anything else about them?
Answers:
I'm sorry, but putting them together would be a bad idea, because they are solitary animals, and they will kill each other if they lived together.
You should get 2 seperate cages. Also, you said they were small...Are they dwarf hamsters ? Because if they are, they need a special treatment...
The basic things you need:
-a cage
-hamster food, a food bowl and a water bowl
-dust bath (only for dwarf hamsters, to keep their fur shiny)
What NOT to give hamsters :
-apartment plants
-fried or sweet food
-potato or tomato peels
-You can give your hamsters baby carrots, pieces of apples, or certain kinds of vegetables, as long as they're washed properly and are not coming straight from the fridge.
You have to change your hamsters' water daily (make sure it's fresh) and his cage weekly.
Other stuff you can give your hamsters' are :
-Wood chews : you can get some at PJ's pet shop, they're good for them because a hamster's teeth never stop growing.
-I give my hasmter cotton balls. He tears them with his teeth and claws and uses it as a nest, or sometimes, he sleeps under it...
If you have a dwarf hamster, you have to give him a dust bath onca a week. He rolls himself in it, and it's really cute, so don't miss it !
Leave your hamsters at least one week to get used to their cage, then put a treat in your hand and let them come to you.
I would get a cage from petsmart. They have a mid-size cage with a big wheel attached around it. I've raised hamsters for some time. It has to be the best one!
if your hamsters are the syrian breed then they can-not live in a cage together - once they mature (very quickly) they will fight until the end :-( If your hamsters are Russian or chinese then they can live together but only in a cage will no bars as they can easily slip through. on my source is a link to a good cage. EXTRA INFO - . www.google.com . then search hamster info
This may sound odd, but it is a cheap and great way to house your hamster. It is a bin cage. I use mine for my hamster and he loves it compared to his old pet store one! Here is a helpful site if you are interested:
http://www.geocities.com/calhamassoc/fea...
They are cheap, easy to build, easy to clean and best of all more space for the hamster. Good luck!
I think they could go in the same cage:
http://www.petco.com/shop/petco_product_...
http://www.petco.com/shop/petco_product_...
http://www.petco.com/shop/petco_product_...
any cage will do. i would make sure that they are both male or both female. i hate two hamsters and endedn up with 16..anyhow dont buy crittertrails is all i can say...they are too hard to clean...
i dont know about where to get a new cage from.
but i got my hamsters when they were v young (male and female) and i put them together in the same cage. they are very close and enjoyed playing and cuddling up 2gther.
the only problem is i had to separate them when she had her litter and although his cage is right next to hers, he seems quite lonely without her.
so im wondering if it was right to let them get so used to eachother from the begining. but looking back, i guess it wouldve been cruel to let them be alone so young if u can put them together.
but usually.. ive heard that syrian hamsters are solitary and should be kept alone as adults. if they are dwarf , they can live togther.
so its up to you i guess.

Help needed with my hamster?
my hamster, drew murty, was playing in his ball (you know the sort - blue plastic thingy) when my son accidentally kicked the ball across the room when he stood up. now drew murty is lying on his back twitching. what should I do? the vets office is closed and I'm worried. I don't have a car and I don't know the best way to move him! what should I do?
Answers:
use a piece of cardboard or somthing that you can slide under the hamster and carefully put him in his cage, he may just be stunned or knocked out. But you should look up the number for a emergency exotics or small animal vet and give them a call. they can tell you what to look for, if he has to be seen and what not... i hope the little fellas ok, hamsters are tough little critters, but not indestructible.
EDIT: after seeing the other questions you have asked i don't think you should be allowed to have a kid, much less a hamster. I hope they both aren't scarred for life. Find the hamster i new home, give the kid to someone who will take care of it and check yourself in to some kind of clinic for your insanity.
Oh not that hamster of yours again! I think it's you that needs the help not the creature. Have you considered voluntarily sectioning yourself?
if you move it, do it with something hard underneath of the hamster. if you lift him onto someting hard, do it with as little movement as possible. Maybe he's just in shock right now, but you might want to take the bus or something to the vets when it opens again, just to be sure. and remember, move it as little as possible. Good Luck
Never mind...I read your other questions. Drew Murty is one hell of magician, as he can be a turtle, a friend with aids, and a hamster!
Telephone your vet, as many surgeries leave the telephone number of an emergency vet on their answerphones. If you cannot find an emergency vet, try ringing the RSPCA, looking on line or the Yellow Pages.
its probably just stunned pick it up and put it back in its cage. my hamster love doing that. she will run on top of you feet just so she can go spinning across the room.
Question; are all your pets called Drew Murty?
ps. don't buy anymore pets. I really hope your just mental %26 do not really have cat, tortoise, %26 hamster, all of which have experinced some sort of tragedy in recent times...
If you can I would carefully pick him up and lay him on some bedding in his cage there isn't a lot more you can do for him till tomorrow morning, he could just be in shock, i hope so if he is still with you in the morning take him round to the vets for a check up, try to keep him as quiet as possible for tonight to let him get over his shock and avoid handling him for a while and avoid the ball for a couple of weeks if he does make it, i hope he is ok, if you can let me know how he is tomorrow tks
not a thing but if it dies get some tissues
if you are to sacred to move him try to if not sure then maybe if you can call a vet t9 ask what to do . oh if you hamster is okay next time you should tell your son that the hamsters out in the ball so don't kick or mess with it . i not that sure thew if you should move but if you do put cage as far as you can to the ball and move him or her gently may add more beading to comfort her more oh and sudden moves you or your son don't want to get bit epically if you don't no where it hurts.
he's in shock, put him in his cage and watch him, he could be seriously hurt.
awwwwww poor drew pick him up!

HELP my rats have little bugs on them !?
well i bathed him in my sink with some hot water not to hot though but i washed him with a little tiny bit of dawn not even dime size and used the hair dryer on low he seemed to like this then i checked him over again and i saw nothing but i ran a flea brush thing threw his hair but i need some thing that way they dont come back and im not even sure if their even gone yet but what should i do ?
Answers:
If rats have parasites they usually have lice. My rats had them for awhile and it was not very nice. Definitely take them to the vet for a proper prescription to get rid of the bugs. Also make sure to clean the cage thoroughly (wash the cage carefully with bleach) twice a week to stop a reinfection.
leave him for a few days to see if they are fully gone, keep checking him and if he stil has them you can get flea treatment for them at stores but apply it to the back of the neck where they tend not to reach. they should die off by then. to make sure they dont come back keep his cage clean and try not to get flies or mosquitoes in where he lives bacause they can carry around alot of stuff. hope this helps. best answer please ;)
you should get a hairless rat
do not use any commercial over the counter flea products on your rats it can kill them. you need to take them to a vet and get the correct medicine and dosage for them. i learned that the hard way.
Many of my pet rats have had mites and I have used a flea and tick killer made for small animals and it worked. I've never seen an over the counter product made just for mites but I did some research and the flea and tick killer has the same active ingredient as mite killer from a vet. If that doesn't work then take them to the vet.
clean their cages and toys. talk to the vet about what kind of flea shampoo to use on them. or check the pet shop near you about any rodent flea shampoos they might have. you might have to bug bomb the house to get rid of them, just make sure you take your pets elsewhere and clean up before you bring them home.
Well first of all you dont give rats baths.. and try seeing a vet honey!! you don't want something wrong with your rat!!

1st off, don't wash your rat in dawn or any other product than shampoo made for them. Too many bad chemicals in them to harm him. 2nd. You can use kitten advantage on him. Use very little but it is safe. Petco does sell flea products for rats though.
Also, besure to clean their cage daily for about a week to make sure there's no more bugs.
Clean the cage as often as you can. The bugs could have laid eggs in the bedding or in the carpet near the cage.
Also, it might not be fleas at all, but mites. For that you would probably need to take them to a vet.

Help my poor pet rabbit!?
my rabbit wont eat from my hand!! he used to but now he doesnt!
Answers:
sounds like you love him, but maybe your not giving him enough time alone. i wouldn't worry to much if he doesn't eat from your hand. my rabbit LOVES me (I mean, REALLY loves me), and she won't eat from my hand, but I don't care. I still love her even if she doesn't!
maybe you should wash your hands. i don't like to eat from dirty plates I'm sure your rabbit doesn't either.
Wash them first!
just put it in a bowl- as long as he's eating it doesn't matter if it's from your hand or not.
maybe your hand smells....really bad lol lol lol
He/she may be sick or stressed.
Did you change her diet?
Will she eat at all?
Is she biting/scratching?
Is she passing normal pellets?
Those are some signs of sickness or stress. If none of those she/he may just be having behavioral changes. If any of those occure take him/her to ur vet. GOOD LUCK!
wash your hands... wash the treat if its fruit or veggies... before feeding it sit it on your lap and pet it, if you hear it grinding its teeth its content and most likely trusts you more. try feeding it then and if it doesnt eat from your hand try a different treat or food
He is growing up. When you were a baby your guardians fed you from a spoon now you feed yourself.
MAiBE HE GREW OUT OF iT..HEs STiLL EATiN RiGHT? iF NOT THEN MAiBE YOU SHOULD TAKE iT TO A VET OR SOMETHiNG TO GET HiM CHECKED OUT...BUT MOST LiKELYY HE JUSTT GOT USED TO EATiN HiS FOOD BY HiMSELF..HOPE HEs OKAYY..
Like a few people have said wash you hands first is a good idea. But also check your rabbits teeth! If he's off his food totally check them and if they are long and over grown take him to the vets.
Not all rabbits will eat from you hand, maybe he just doesn't want to any more. If he's health don't worry.
Maybe you ate soemthing before and he doesnt like the smell??Or maybe you should feed him in a bowl..
Hope you feel better!!
you should try and play with your rabbit more times to get him trust you it clearly states that your rabbit is afraid of you.so try and give him nice treats from your hand after u play with him for about 2 to three days zd see what happens
Maybe your rabbit doesnt trust you anymore.
It's alright! He's just not used to you anymore. Either you haven't been hanging around him alot like he used to or you have done something offensive to him.
heres the thing rabbits are like little kids (i know i have one lol) they have there good days and bad days. Maybe he just dousnt want that treat try giveing him something new or just give him a day or 2. Oh and on the patty training thing lol you dont take them out side you get a litter box form your pet store made for rabbits fill it with Critter Litter (safe if he eats it do not use cat litter!) then put some hay on top of that so he will be rewarded when he hops in. Ok now that you know how to make the litter box heres where you put it 1: in his cage in the coner where he uses it the most then put his food, toys, water, house etc. in the other 4 coners this will help him to see thats the bathroom 2: if hes not in a cage (or even if he is this is still a good idea to have 2 litter boxes) put it in the coner of the room where he likes to go bathroom in at 1st he will go infront of it then behind it then in it it takes them time to get it right. but this should help you out a lot with the litter box training go to www.rabbits.org and click on litter box training

Help my mouse looks sick!?
I bought my fancy white mouse two days ago...it was really playful and energetic. The this morning I went to see it and it was barely moving...what could be wrong? What can I do?
Answers:
These little guys can get upper resp. infections easily. The absolute BEST thing you can do for him is take him to the vet. Depending on where you got him, you may be able to return him and let them take care of him. He might need antibiotics and such.
What kind of bedding is he on? They can also have allergic reactions to cedar and pine bedding. If you are using either of those get him out of it now. Put him on paper towels until you can get him proper bedding. Aspen or Carefresh would be the best.
See if he will eat some pumpkin mix (VERY small amount) or some plain yogurt. That may help him go to the bathroom. Has he been eating? Also, mouse poop is VERY small and you might just not be seeing it.
Good luck! I hope everything turns out ok.
it could be VERY sick. take her to the vet.
It seems like its time for SUPER VET. I would take it to the vet it doesn't seem well. It could be constipated. Dont feed Mice cheese there allergic!

First of all, what you need to do it put him in a small cage with a heating pad turned on LOW underneath the cage, but only underneath part, so he can crawl away if he gets too hot. next, put some really comfy bedding in, such a toilet paper. then, try to feed him some treats, and baby food helps (through a tiny syringe) next, the most important part CALL A VET. they will not charge you, and if you call there and they dont really want to talk to you, then call somewhere else, because if they tell you that they dont know whats wrong, or something else, they probably just want you to come in. You should only listen to a vet if you can tell that he/she loves animals and just wants to help., not just to earn money.
GOOD LUCK! HOPE HE GETS BETTER SOON! %26lt;3%26lt;3%26lt;3
Have you been feeding her regularly?? Have you been changing her water regularly...take her to the vet to see whats wrong.
Firstly mice are nocturnal, so in the mornings they are usually sleeping. When they are disrupted, their sleep patterns will be funny for a while. Your mouse was probably just getting used to its new environment for the first couple of days. My mice are extra energetic after i clean their cage and rearrange their toys, the love exploring.
If your mouse is not more alert and playful at night (sometimes they only want to come out really late, so monitor it for a few days) then there may be a more serious problem.
also with the pooping issue, it has only been two days so there will not be much and they are very small. if you use shredded paper or other deep beddings, the excrement will fall to the bottom and you won't see much. if u are worried, take a careful look at the bottom of the bedding.
make sure your mouse is eating and drinking (if using a bottle, check it regularly by touching the nozzle with a clean finger, a little water should come out) and if your mouse gets worse, think about calling a vet.

Help my hamster's paw is bleeding?
I WAS PETTING IS HEAD AND I FELT BLOOD LOOKED DOWN AND BLOOD PLZ HELP!!!1
Answers:
Take her to the vet for medicine to put on it's wounded paws. You can take a ice cube and put it on it's paw, it helps to stop the bleeding too.
ok well then ur hamster probly bit it self or scratch it on the cage,or it had bilster on its paw.
maybe it scathed it on something or maybe it is being irritated by flies and it tries to scratch them off.
hope i helped
the vet..there shouldnt be a reason to y it bled unless u keep it in a wire based cage which can and will hurt its feet
Your hamster will be fine, it will heal just fine.
use the quick stop to stop the bleeding its the same stuff people use to stop bleeding when they are cutting nails on dogs. If you don't have any on hand go to the kitchen and get a spoon full of flour. It helps stop bleeding ( I have used it for my guinea pig) After all that and your hammy has calmed down inspect the area and see what may have caused it. Then call a local vet that works with small animals and help you along with the rest of it hope this helps
Chances are it is nothing this does occationally happen they bite them selves or just scratch themselves. I would not recommend a vet but I don't know use your judgment. Is there a lot of blood? has it stopped bleeding by the time you read this?
Hope this helped
VET. petqna.com is not and never will be, an alternative to a veterinarian.

I am wondering if he might be reacting to the bedding that he is on? Sometimes with bedding that is pine or ceder the oils can cause fur loss even absests. This also could effect his eyes and make them goopy and swell shut. If you are using a paper based bedding then maybe he rubbed his head on something and now is compulsively cleaning it. And for his eyes you could try a dog or cat eye cleaner like Opticlear or other products like that to clean eyes. If that does not help you should take him to the vet it may be an eye infection. You will need meds to help with that. Hope this helps!
thake your hamster to the vet a.s.a.p
try to take him to the vet and then they will tell u wat to do and i know it might be more money then eye drops but at least u would know what to do. i dont think he will die but do try to get him to the vet or i have no choice but to say that it might die.
take him to the vet! dang!
Take him to the vet ... sounds like he has a tumour or something.
Edit : Glad he seems ok! :-)
duh take him to the vet you idiot!
maybe he is allergic to the bedding??? use super shavin's avail. at petsmart, and sometimes they get mites??? if it seems better keep an eye on it, and don't use bedding like cedar, or pine they cause problems, super shavin's has been excellent for my 3 girls. good luck

Help My Hamster won't Drink or eat?
I bought A Hamster On Friday And Left Him Alone To Let Him get Used to His New Home But i Don't Think He Is Drinking His Water It Hasnt Lost a drop since friday and He Keeps on Kicking His Bedding in His food
Answers:
its called suicide. im soooo sorry
Starve it and then he'll see how lucky he is to get food.
Try hand feeding.
you can put a little water in a container and put it on the cage floor to see if its drinks from that.
Kicking bedding into the food isnt a problem , he will still find the food.
Hamsters LOVE cabbage and lettuce and it's very good for them. Give him a small piece. If he doesn't eat it, something is wrong.
When he starts eating normally, still give him cabbage or lettuce every day (small piece.)
Kicking his bedding into his food isn't a problem, alot of hamsters move thier bedding around, or take food out of thier bowl and hide it around thier cage. It may be that you just haven't noticed the water level change- they don't drink ALOT, probably not enough for you to notice the difference. But yes, put a small piece of the watermelon in it's cage and see if it eats it. Also, the lettuce that someone else mentioned is a good idea. If he really isn't eating/drinking, try taking it to a vet to see what's wrong.
Are you SURE your hamster isn't eating or drinking? They tend not to drink too much and do hide their food in corners of their habitat, digging them up later as they would in the wild. Hamsters also dig in their litter and throw it around when doing so. They dig and such because it's an inherited feature from when their ancestors were in the wild. Now, on to your questions: How are you presenting the food and water? Is it the same as the way they did in your 'ster's previous home? (Ex. If you 'ster was used to drinking from a water bottle that hangs on the side of his/her enclosure, have you put in such a hanging water bottle? Did the hamster have vitamins in his/her water before and you're not putting them in now, and vice versa?) Did you call the pet store where you bought him/her to ask if there was anything you're doing now that he/she was not used to? What about the food? Try finding out what food they feed it at the pet store and buying that. Perhaps a seed treat may help. Fresh veggies or a thin slice of fruit is good also, but these must be kept to a minimum or else your pet will REALLY become sick from the almost always fatal hamster diarrhea, "wet tail." If his/her condition does not change for the better, your pet may be ill. Might have lice or fleas or something. Do you see any creepy crawlies on the inside of the pet's enclosure? Check closely, but be careful that (in case this is what's happening) YOU don't get infested. If the little one IS infested, take him or her to the vet immediately! In any case, if the 'ster does not improve, a visit to the doctor might be what's needed.
the first few days i had my hamster i was terrified, i never saw him drink! i'm not sure if he never drank out of hte bottle (i never saw him) but i didn't want to take chances, so i got him a little dish of water. i'm sure hes drinking, if you're not positive get him a little dish and keep hte bottle, give him choices. about the food...make sure you feed him a small amount at the same time every day. hamsters like to gather their food and hide it in little corners (hoarding) to eat for later. its instinct to hide their food, they're trying to protect it! kicking bedding is normal. they're just burrowing and having fun.
I reccomend feeding slowly by hand, and every time he geats a piece of food, congrajulate him. We did that to our dog and it worked
The people who are saying that your hampster is trying to kill himself is not true, hampsters dont do that. Yes, watermelon is a very god source of water. But don't give it too much. It probably is just a bit frightened. The bedding in his food is fine. but maybe hang like a carrot on the side of the cage, or try a new type of food. Good luck.
th ething i want to know is if hes old or not? i had a hamster and he was a golden one and he stoped eating and drinking water and he slowly started to die but he was like 3years old,
just keep the food bowl full and change the water every day, it will start using them, maybe it only does when you are not around, they sleep all day.

Help my hamster have bald spot?
i see a bald spot but i dont know what it is i use wood as it beding it grom a lot and lately it have been trying to escape also it 1 month old also i was like touching it and grabing place it on my lap and fed a few seeds can anyone tlel me what happen
Answers:
A lot of hamsters get bald spots, especially from trying to escape. He most likely just rubbed the area on a part of the cage when he was trying to get out.
If it is red and looks swollen, take the wood shavings out of the cage and put him on paper towels for a few days.
Once a day, put neosporin on the area, just a tiny dap and rub it on (it's easiest to do with a Q-Tip). Once the redness and swelling goes away, you can put him back on the wood chips...
Also, make sure the chips are Aspen, NO PINE AND NO CEDAR, these can be toxic to small animals.
If you still want to take him to a vet, it depends on each individual vet how much it will cost. Some will only charge you for a walk-in, which is usually around $20-30, other will charge you for a full check-up, which is usually around $40-50 but can be up to $90-100. All you can do is call around and ask.
I hope this helps..GOOD LUCK!!
It could be that he scratched himself. Once I thought my hamster was bald or had a cut, but he just scratched himself and his fur folded that way when he slept. If it really bothers you, go see a vet. My brother's former hamster had a cancer growth and it looked like a big bald lump.

Answers:
Could be something called Wet Tail that they can get sometimes. It's a bacterial stomach infection. Look it up, maybe the symptoms fit. Regardless I'm sure it's not your fault. Please don't blame yourself. Hamsters tend to die quickly and for seemingly unexplained reasons. Good luck!
maybe she eaten too much
she probably was sick
I think, you over fed your hamster.
I had the same problem. He probably died of natural causes
Don't know how old your hamster was but it might just have died of old age (2 years).
You must have loved your hamster because you were crying, maybe you did nothing wrong and hamster just passed away naturally.
how old was your hammie?? On average hamsers on ly live about 2-3 years, some a bit longer but not much
you thibnk you have it bad. I nearly lost a testicle the other day
All I know is nature took it's course and it was not your fault. Just if you think about getting another hamster disinfect the cage just in case it was contagious. And Nettie is SO wrong Wet Tail is not a stomach thing it's diarrhea. And diarrhea is DEADLY to hamster and if it had wettail the whole somach or at least most of it would be yellow from the diarrhea.
i can tell u one thing she died becuase she was cold. doesn't blue with a black tummy give you a hint. so yes she was cold, did you leave the air on while you were gone? retrace your steps and serchyour house, maybe she was just old.
In my experiance it doesnt sound like you did anything wrong.
Hamsters dont usually overeat unless its over a long period, it is more likely to store the food away somewhere for later.
Once it dies its body will get cold , same temperature as the room its in, and skin looks blue because the oxygen in the blood that makes ir red is gone.
This doesnt really help you know what happened though. :(
First, let me tell you that I feel your pain! I have had many hamsters and have cried hysterically when each of them died, although I currently have a new hamster. Now, there are a few ways a hamster could have died. When your hamster was alive, did it always have a wet tail and butt? If it did, then it had a disease called wet tail, which is a common disease in hamsters. Unfortunately, there is not a cure for wet tail (they pick it up from the litter they were with at the pet store usually), so there would have been nothing you could have done to help it. I don't think you could have fed it too much, because hamsters will usually pick what they want to eat and leave what they don't want/need. Also, if you put too many hamster vitamins in its water bottle or put red cedar wood chips in its cage , it could have been poisened. The only other way it could have died is if it had a heart attack or choked on its food. If you get a new hamster though, examine the litter it was from and check if any of the hamsters have wet tail. If they do, do not buy a hamster from that litter. Also when you feed your hamster try dumping out the old rotten food to discourage germs and clean its cage at least once every 2 weeks. Hope this helps!

Help my hamster bites me what should i do?
i tried the gloves i tried getting it used to me and it still bites me and it pregnant does that have anything to do with it. i got it from the pet store and it got pregnant thier help
Answers:
No offense, but some people can just be plain morons sometimes. You know how pregnant women get, with all the hormones. Pregnant humans would bite you if social ettiquite would allow it, and fortunantly for us it doesnt. But, hamsters have no social ettiquite, so bitting you is the only way she can get the message accross to you, because she also cant speak, to leave her be. And, just like humans, after she has her babies, she will get nice again, if not remain a little protective over her kids. That is just part of being a good mom though.
My friend and I have bred hamsters for pretty close to three years now and most, but not all, of our females are the same way. To keep her nice and mellow when she raises the babies, make a food offering from your hand to her every day and she will get to the point where she is not so mean wether she has a hormone problem or not.
Now, I am not calling you stupid or anything, but I get a little enjoyment out of answering questions like this.
Have fun with the hammy babies, and remember, she has no social code, so she can bite you. lol.
Hope this helps.
keep in mind that hamsters have HORRIBLE eye sight so all your movements should be slow around them. wake the hamster up before you pick it up...and remember to scoop it up from the bottom.
call the petstore and tell them that they should you a pregnant hamster.
sorry, don't know what else to tell you.
I used to work at a pet store, and always hated how hamsters have always been sold as a great pet. They suck. and for the most part, most hamsters do bite. they dont like being handled. especially the dwarfs. anyways. nothin you can do. maybe feed him to a snake. If you want a great small pet that doesnt bite, and loves to be played with. Go for a rat. they are often hated, but I think they are one of the best pets one could have, for a small animal.
OMG! You are soo stupid! Of course you are not supposed to pick it up when it is pregnant!LEAVE THE HAMSTER ALONE UNTIL IT"S LITTER HAS FULLY GROWN UP AND FIND HOMES FOR THE HAMMIES.
you should was your hands before you touch the hamster cause you probably smells stuff on your hands and thinks its food.

Help my 4 year old sis wants one of my baby hamsters?
when my hamster gave birth to 18 babies. 6 of them died. so i only got 12 babies. and they got there color and my sis wants the black one. is she to young? is she responsible? i dont want to be a mean sis but i want to but it depends on the hamsters care. should i give her one? why or why not?
Answers:
Yes she is too young!
If you help her take care of the little hamster, then it's fine for her to "have" one. It'd probably be good for her to learn how to take care of the pet and to learn about responsibility, even at such a young age, but only if you have the time. If not, then just let her play with yours because she can't take care of it by herself and should be watched while handling the hamster.
Four year olds are not responsible enough to take care of hamsters. Goldfish are more suitable as a first pet. Your sister will most likely harm the hamster by accident, from rough handling. You should wait until she is at least 8 before introducing rodents for her to solely look after.
In the meantime, you can slowly introduce little creatures and teach her how to hold them carefully and gently. Keep in mind she will probably freak if they start to squirm and get away or bite.
I would let her have a hamster but I would recommend her not to be allowed to take out the hamster unless there is supervision (either you or a parent) she may not like this rule but it is safer so a hamster doesnt get lost or even worse stepped on! I think she is a little young but if she doesnt do much to it without supervision she should be fine...
also if you decide she is to young get her a gold fish or a beta!
Why not? Once it's old enough, I see no problem. You obviously know how to care for them, so you can help her learn to care for hers, right? My four year old has been raised with all kinds of pets and animals, inside and outside. He had a hamster when he was three, took very good care of it. It died because the pet store told us cedar was ok, and of course we found out it causes respiratory issues. We just never got another one. Right now, he has a guinea pig and a turtle in his room. He takes care of the turtle himself, and I help him feed and water the guinea pig. He also helps me with the horses, goats, everything in the barn, and he feeds and waters the ferrets and helps me feed and water the birds. Takes care of the chickens by himself. Help her learn responsibility. As long as you're there to show her, she should do just fine :-) It will be a great experience for both of you.
i would not because she could hurt the baby and i think she is to young. But you can help her take care of the hamster and always makesure she is always sitting on the floor with the hamster. SHE SHOULD ALWAYS BE SUPERVISED WHEN WITH HAMSTER!!
Good luck!!!!
You've gotten some pretty good suggestions so far. I'd just like to add, having raised bettas, goldfish, and hamsters before, that neither of them are "easy" pets that should be tossed carelessly into the hands of a 4 year old. Kids that young should be monitored and taught about responsibility. Even though she may not be able to own one, let her get involved with the hamster by filling it's food bowl and refilling the water bottle every once in a while.
Let her think it is hers but you take care of it
When i was four i had a pet mouse. if i were you i would let her have the hamster, but have her keep it in a public place like your kitchen, so that way she can have the fun of owning a pet, and you can make sure she is not doing the criter harm. In adtion if you do this, make sure you constantly inforce cleening the cage, feeding and caring for the pet, so she will know what shes getting herself into in the future
no. as soon as you give it to her she may play with her non-stop. the hamster is only a baby and will die soon like that. it is ok for her to play with it for a while and make sure she doesn't play too rough. or it would be ...umm..not very nice...like...death. sorry. :(
I think 4 is to young to have the big responsibility of owning and taking care of a hamster, or any animal for that matter. I think you should keep on taking care of them yourself until she is a little older, but in the meantime let her hold the one she likes and pet it, I'm sure she will be happy enough with that!
Good luck!
she is to young to care for it by herself but you could tell her that it is her hamster and you are going to help her look after it. we have three male rats and the youngest one belongs to my two year old son. he fell in love with him at the pet store so he came home to join my boys. as long as she has some one to help her it's a good way for her to learn responsibility.

Help my 2 male russian hamsters have had kids . how many could be in a litter . i have counted 3 up 2 now help
Answers:
the average litter size is 6 but they can have anything upto 12, if its their first litter it is usually upto 6 babies. Put your hamster cage somewhere quiet where they wont be disturbed, give them some torn up toilet paper, the mum will make her nest with it. Start giving your hamster chopped up cucumber and apple and a chopped up boiled egg, this will help the mum, and when the babies start to walk around they will enjoy eating this as well, at around 10-15 days old they will open their eyes this is when they get really cute, once they are covered in fur and have their eyes open you can handle them, but try not to stress their mum out too much, do not handle them before as mum will see this as a treat and may kill them, if you leave the male in, then they can mate as quickly as 24 hours after giving birth and she could give birth again 18 days later
im gonna just throw somthing out there, one has tobe a female
? how could they have kids ask a vet or look it up
not sure call ur out of hours vet surg..
How the feck did 2 male hamsters do it, I am gobsmacked, get in touch with Guinness Books.....now.
:O
1st litter, I'd say.. 2 - 6?
Usually 1st litters are small, but there's a chance there could be more.
In case you didn't know, leave the real male in, he'll help care for the babies! But after they're weaned, you'll need to separate them..
Some help may be found:
http://www.petwebsite.com/hamsters/breed...
http://exoticpets.about.com/od/hamsters/...
The 2nd looks good for you! It contridicts my advice about leaving the male in.. but I didn't realise she could get pregnant again so soon. Good luck with your babies.
Edit: Also, their sexing page for the babies: http://exoticpets.about.com/od/hamsters/...
How did 2 males have babies? Who gave birth to them?
they can have a much as 7 and as little as 1 :) dont worry too much. dont touch the babies. i know it is tempting, but t might cause the mum to think the babies are unhealthy.
good luck :)
Cheers,
Sabby
Two males? Sell your story to the Daily Mail - you stand to earn a fortune!
Russian hamsters can have large litters - up to a dozen perhaps - be careful because there is a tendency to kill the young. Also, as the males mature they tend to pick on the older males (daddy!) and I have known them fight to the death.
lmao! by the way... i think one of them might be female!!
just a wild out there guess but one of them is female...when the pups are born seperate the male. usally there can be 2-7 pups a littler but 1st litters are small so u can expect 2-4 but u can always expect more.
hope this helps
sweetheart, I dont think you are too sure of your birds and bees, and hamsters. One of your pets HAS to be a female to have young ones.. two boys just dont make a mummy

HELP ME. my Guinea pig has a terrible cold need some home remedies??
His name is Steven. He is sneezing all the time and has has alot of snots in his nose NEED SOME HOME REMEDIES ON WHAT TO DO?
Answers:
Please take your piggie to the vet immediately. He needs to be on an antibiotic to clear up his respiratory infection. If you don't get him some help, he will die. Sorry to be so blunt, but this is serious. There are no home remedies for this.
If your guinea pig had snots in his nose, chances are it is a UTI or respritory infection. Get the pig to the vet immediatly. If untreated, the infection will kill your guinea pig. A guinea pig's health can go downhill very quickly so the sooner you do this the better.
Also, check out www.guinealynx.com for medical information.
infection probably
Go to the vet. They have medicine for that. He may be suffering from wet tail.
take him to a vet some vets do take small pets
I wouldnt risk using a home remedy, take him to a vet to see EXACTLY, what is wrong. He may need some antiboitics, regardless the vet will know more, and tell you what to do.
Trust me when I say your guinea pig does not need home remedies, he needs the vet. He hasn't got a 'cold' he's got a respiratory infection and very likely needs antibiotics. Sort it out!

Help me! Please answer!!?
I have a rabbit. We suspect that he has GI stasis. We have no access to a vet and there is no problem with money. I really need help because we may have to force-hydrate him. He eats with a huge appetite, and is lively, but he doesn't drink or poop or pee! There is no urine or feces in his cage, although he had small round feces today morning. Please help me with a step to step way to syringe hydrate my rabbit. I don't know where to place the syringe and I am afraid that I will make him choke by letting the water into the trachea windpipe.
I need help from people who know. Please answer.

How To Make the Syringe Formula
* Using a your coffee grinder, add the timothy pellets and grind them until they are in a fine, powdery-like state. Even then you will sometimes need to sift through them to pick out larger chunks which will not go through the oral syringe.
* Add 2-4 tablespoons of the powdered mix to your bowl or cup (save the rest in a ziplock for later).
* Add warm water (or Pedialyte), slowly, as you mix - until the mix is about as thick as semi-congealed pudding. Wait 3-5 minutes for pellets to absorb water.
* Add more water until the mix is once again like semi-congealed pudding. Wait another minute or so…
* Now add the juice, a little at a time, waiting 30 seconds to 1 minute, until your mix is the consistency of semi-congealed pudding. It should be liquidy enough to flow well through the oral syringe, but not so watery that you won’t be getting actual food into your rabbit.
NOTE: If you are unable to make your own syringe formula, OxBow Hay Co. makes a wonderful syringe feeding formula called “Critical Care” which can usually be purchased through your rabbit vet. This is GREAT stuff, however, over a long period of time it can become quite expensive.
Syringe Feeding Your Rabbit
* Sit bunny on a towel on the counter facing sideways (as opposed to towards or away from you).
* Talk to your bunny and tell her what you are doing as you wrap your arm around your bunny so her bottom or back-end is against your upper arm / crook of your elbow; place that hand on bunny’s head, thumb behind the ears and against cheek closest to you – other fingers along far side of face (I have my index finger in the middle of the face). You can use this hand to help steady bunny’s face and to help keep her from moving forward.
* With the OTHER hand, insert the tip of the filled syringe into the side of bunny’s mouth, behind the incisors (front teeth) and slowly squeeze out 1-2cc at a time, allowing bunny to chew and swallow. Be very careful not to squirt food or liquid straight back down the throat or you could get liquid into her lungs (aspiration), which could kill your rabbit.
* Sometimes it is necessary to make a “bunny burrito” in order to help restrain your rabbit: sit bunny across towel width-wise; fold back of towel up over bunny’s rump; fold either side up and over bunny’s back, the top side wrapping beneath bunny – so that only her head sticks out. This often has a calming/secure effect on a rabbit. Continue as listed above.
Ask your vet how frequently you should do this each day and how many total cc's you should try to get into your rabbit at each feeding.
Recovery Time
It is crucial to remain patient while nursing a rabbit through GI Stasis. The road to recovery is often long, and you need to allow the therapies and medications time to do their work. It may be several days before you see any fecal pellets, and several weeks before your bunny is back to normal again. DO NOT STOP any medications or therapies or change them without first consulting your vet! We also suggest that when it is time to stop medications that you not do so abruptly , but in a tapering-off manner. When you do see your vet, if your rabbit has a companion, make sure he or she goes along as well. Separation can cause stress and make matters worse.
We cannot stress enough the importance of talking to your rabbit, encouraging her, loving her and giving her extra-special attention during this period. Rabbits respond amazingly well to love and attention.
Proper care, proper feeding, pain relief, tummy massage, love and patience will almost surely get your rabbit through a bout of GI Stasis.
Hi
What do you mean you've no access to a vet? if you needed treatment i'm sure you'd find some way of getting it.

If you have been feeding it rabbit pellets, feed it some dandelions.

Help me! it has to do with a dog and 2 gerbils?
i really want 2 gerbils but my parents said if we get a pet it would be a dog. What should i do?
Answers:
Well, calmly present your case to your parents. Maybe they will let you have the gerbils if you keep them in your room and do ALL of the research that you can on them, this would show that you have enough responsibility to take care of them and then POSSIBLY, they can have the dog and you can have the gerbils.
Good luck...can YOU pay for the gerbils, cage, food, bedding and everything?
Try explaining why you think gerbils will be a better pet for YOU.
Explain calmly to your parents that gerbils stay in there cage and dont requie alot of work or responsibility. But also let them know that there will be enough responsibility involved that you will have to take care of them.
save up your money and say this is my money and i am buying to gerbils they will say if its your money ok
Tell your parents the dog could be a family pet, while the gerbils would be YOUR responsiblity, and your responsiblity ONLY. Dogs are WAY better pets than gerbils. I owned 2 gerbils, and I can tell you what they do. Chew, sleep, eat, drink, and bug the heck out of you at 2:00AM.
I would get the dog gerbils can bite and be very aggressive depending on the temperment. I had a gerbil once and it was ok for awhile but it became very aggressive and everytime I tried to feed him or clean the cage he would bite. I unfortunetly had to give him away because he bit my younger sister and that was that.
we got a german shepard instead he was the best pet ever.
i assume if your on here your old enough to take care of the gerbils yourself. talk to their logic of care- that gerbils make less mess and are cheaper..(as long as you dont have babies from them)
gerbills are verty dirty nd smelly believe me they smell really bad
wen u hav a dog u cn play wit it walk it hav fun wit d gerbills well u cant do anythin wit them only feed nd clean out bt then again dogs ive longer bt is a big responally 2 hav a dog
if you live in C.A. then it's illegal to have gerbils.
tell them dogs thierselves are WAY more expensive than buying 2 gerbils and everything they need. (you should get 2 gerbils because if you have only one they get depressed and angry for some reason) i only had one gerbil and it did the same thing so i bought another one...but what i told you should help..
Try to tell them that gerbils are easier to take care of u don't have to take them on walks every day, u can leave them home when u go on vaca. as long u give them food and u can keep them in thier cages when u don't want to play w/ them

Help me with names for my new pets!!! :-)?
i just got 2 lil baby rats! they're hairless rats, but they're just so darn ugly, they're cute! lol :-)
so what should i name them?? they're both boys, and they both have pink skin. one of them has a light grey/black face though, like he got into something he wasn't supposed to and got it all over his face!! i was thinking oreo for him, but i'm not sure...and he has blue eyes too, which is adorable lol.
the other one looks alot more innocent and pure, his skin is all pink and perfect, and he's a bit smaller than the other one, and less assertive.
any ideas for names would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe Ron or Ronald. I mean he is the owner of Rufus. Yeah ... Rufus (pink one) and Ron (gray and black one). Give them some really good people names. They deserve it!
good choice... I like Oreo and Jack. those are nice names give them a hug for me... Oh and a lick :o)
How about Pinky and the brain ? (sorry.I love that cartoon).
Oreos cute, since you have 2, you could give them names that "go together". I've always been a fan of that.

Well I've had tons of animals in my life, and the name for them should be something that describes there personality. So I guess I'm saying nothing no one can help you. See their personalities and pick what best describes them.

Help me with my rat?
One of my pet rats, i have two, has developed numerous scab like bumps along his tail. My other rat to has started to develoop such bums. What are they, if it is something bad then how do i get it fixed?
Answers:
Move the hair back in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Do you see any tiny reddish-brown specks that move? These are Lice. Mites you can only see under a microscope, but you see their irritating damage in the way of scabs and sores.
Fur mites like to hang around the shoulders and back of rats. Lice like to congregate around the back end of the rat. Both can burrow under the scales of the tail. The irritation and itch that they set up causes the scabs and sores because the rat is scratching so much as to cause self-mutilation. Because the two rats have been living together one got them first and passed them onto his buddy. Both have to be treated.
Could also be tropical rat mites

Whatever you choose to do, treatment has to start ASAP.
As an expert on pet rats I have never heard of "gardner's tail", please explain further, need a source. Intreged, I did my own search and asked on my forums and no one has ever heard of it. Can't find an internet source. I'm thinking this is a slang for another condition that I am familiar with.
Rats do not get wet tail. Wet tail is an illness of hamsters, not rats.
Fleas are something that rats don't get, unless you have Yersinia Pestis in your home, the plague flea. Fleas are species specific. If you see a cat or dog flea on a rat it doesn't mean the flea is sucking the rat's blood. It just means that your cats and/or dogs are bringing fleas into the house and infesting your home.
Be careful with Revolution. Some rats are sensative to this drug and it's made some rats sick.

"my life has gone to the rats"
Take them to the Vet!
It is a condition known as gardners tail, you should probally get it checked, but i don't think it is fatal.
Is it possible that they are biting each other? If so, try separating them to see if it goes away. My rats did it once and it was only a few days before I saw improvements. If that's not it you may want to find a vet near you that knows how to take care of rats. Be sure that they know what they are talking about. The best way to tell if a vet is qualified to take care of a rat ask them if they would recommend not feeding the rat for 24 hours before surgery. Rats don't vomit so if they say yes you should try a different vet. Your rats my just have a little infection and just need a shot or special medicine to be added to their food.
take them to a vet it sounds like wet tail
Sounds like mites to me.
Treat for fur mites. The larvae of the fur mite are small enough that they can hide in the hair follicles where they are protected against topical pesticides. Theoretically, if you apply a mite spray once a week for long enough, it should be able to eventually kill all the mites, but in practice this doesn鈥檛 seem to work very well. Plus rats hate the spray!
You must treat all of your rats, since if one rat has fur mites they probably all do, even if they don鈥檛 all have scabs.
The treatments currently recommended for fur mites is Revolution (selamectin) which you can buy from your vet (with a prescription) or from a Canadian online pharmacy at www.canadavet.com. They ship to the U.S. In the UK or Australia you can order it from www.pets-megastore.com.au or 1-866-270-2303.
Revolution is a spot-on product, a liquid that is applied to the skin on the shoulders. After application, you need to distract your rats so they don鈥檛 scratch off and eat the liquid, or lick it off of each other. The liquid will dry in about 5 minutes. Only one dose is needed.
Revolution comes in tiny tubes of different sizes for different size cats or dogs. Packages of Revolution come with either 3 or 6 tubes of liquid. (If your vet treats a lot of small animals, he or she might be willing to split a package and sell individual tubes.)
Each tube costs about the same amount no matter how much Revolution it contains, so you want to figure out which tube will treat all your rats. To figure out what package to buy you will need to weigh each of your rats, total the number of pounds and multiply that by the dose (6 mg/lb). That will tell you the total number of milligrams of Revolution needed to dose all your rats.
it could be mites try to put some olive oil on tail but separate your rats first
When my rat had scabs it was because of it having fleas. There terrible and cost alot to get rid of at the vets, but its ll worth it when your baby is okay!!
It sounds like they have mites. When mites bit the little droplets of blood start to harden and create scabs. You can go to PetsMart and by mite shampoo. If it's for dog or cat that's ok, you can still use it for you rat. Bathe their entire body, be carefull around the face. Dry them off real good and put them back in their newly clean cage. Also depending on what kind of bedding you use it could have something to do with the mites. Bedding like CareFresh is not good if your rats have mites. They best kind of bedding is called KayKob. It work great and controlls the smell more then CareFresh and pine shaving or woodships. Good Luck
well i Had a mouse at one time that Had scab like things. we took it to the vet and they seed that it was mites. (i have 2 rats). just get mite spray.
it could be mites. go to the vet and get the meds for them and then change the bedding that you are using. the bag that you have may have them in it.
go to the vet,duh
this is a condition called gardener's tail. it isn't that serious but you should probably take them to a vet.
I would take your little rat to the vet. THe vet will see it and will now whats best to treat the bumps on his tail. Good luck!
They probably have mites... treatable with Ivermectin.
(orally- both get one dose a week for 3 weeks)
Call your vet, some will just sell the meds to you without having to do an office visit.
You'll need to disinfect their toys, bedding, cage, etc several times a week during all this, so I recommend you keep them on paper towels instead of bedding so you can change it daily. (You can purchase a mite spray from pet stores that you can spray in the corners of the cage, but if you keep it all clean, you don't have to) When it comes to toys, only put back the bare minimum while you're treating them and throw out anything you can't disinfect.
They are either flees or fighting scabs, if they are flees you should use rat shampoo. if its biting scabs you should separate them for a little bit.
Vet!! duh
Could be a variety of things and only your vet can know for sure. Make an appointment today and he/she will be able to tell you what it is and what to do. He'll probably prescribe some medication for them.
Good Luck!
I breed and sell rats for pets. You don't state the sex of the rats or how long you've had them.
If the rats are males and you've had them awhile with no problems until just recently, then then territory dispute is probably the issue. Males tend to bite each other on the fattest part of the tail nearest the body, on the upper side. The bites are severe and usually get infected. We use Neosporin or Bacitracin. If this is the problem, the rats will have to live in separate cages.
If the rats have mites, there are several types. One type is only visible under the microscope, but all the others can be seen crawling on the rat or the cage. Be careful using pesticides because since rats are small animals, they are easily subject to tumors. Several kinds of mites can be taken care of with olive oil. Just apply it liberally to the body and tail.
Otherwise, use common sense and pay a vet as I do.

Answers:
keep an eye on the hamsters tail/butt area for now...it should have intervals of being wet from peeing but all day would be something to be concerned about. As far as green poop..it could be diet related. Make sure you feed it ONLY hamster food not food specifically for rabbits or guinea pigs. Keep us posted
well after the pee thier tail and butt gets wet so after they pee get a sponge and wet it a but then u just wash his butt do this at least once a week and if they crap green it's somewhat normal or it can be diarea

Try holding out treats for her and letting her sniff you without touching her directly--after a few days of this, she might be more friendly. If you ever get another pet, though, it's a good idea to handle it first (at the place you got it from) to make sure it doesn't bite.
Hamsters vary a lot in personality--some rodents are more friendly than not, but hamsters tend to lean a little towards the anti-social side. It doesn't mean there aren't any friendly hamsters, it just means that it can be more difficult to gain a hamster's trust than, say, a gerbil or rat.
give her time to get used to you -she will
you should kick it and injure it than she'll have to let you pick her up.
hey. i have a hampster 2. (Mustard) and what u may need 2 do is get some kind of glove and pick her up with that, so u dont get hurt, but u can still bond! i did that with Mu, and she's good now!

from personal experience, i know that all hamsters are different. my hamster was pretty much one of my best friends, and she never bit me. but just make sure your hamster has enough time in her rolly ball thing that she can run around in, cuz that will get her more happier. but if that dosnt work, then just get used to the fact that you probably have a hamster that dosnt like people that much [my friends hamster was like that]
hamsters are pretty good pets.on day one when you got itfrom the pet store and you pick her up if she bit you you should n't of gotten it because she bit you i think you need another hamster that will not bite you and about her smelling like pee try cleaning her cage my kids always had hamster and they never bit then thats not a good sign a don't want to scare you but is the true get another one. one that you can play with and pick good luck.
Hamsters aren't antiscocial pets at all, as long as the babies have been handled from a young age they are very friendly, more friendly than other small rodents like gerbils. This is where pet shops fall down as they don't handle them enough.
Even the most vicious hamster can be tamed it just takes time so don't give up! Here are some tips that worked for me:
1. Before you try to touch her wash your hands thoroughly then rub them in her sawdust so you smell like her cage not food or anything else she might like to bite.
2. At first don't try to pick her up, just put your hand in her cage and let her come to you. If she is good give her a treat like a bit of chopped apple or carrot.
3. Don't wake her up to play with her as this will make her feel unsafe in her home, just play with her when she is up and about.
4. When you try and pick her up, do it low down or over a sofa or a table so if she jumps she won't get hurt. To pick her up scoop her onto the palm of your hand then put your other hand on the top to make sure she's safe.
5. If she is really bad you could try wearing gloves the first few times.
Once she learns you are not going to hurt her she will become very friendly, it may just take a while.
She might be smelly as she needs cleaning out. Do this once a week and wash the corner she pees in to stop a smelly residue from building up. If you are keeping her very clean and she still smells she may have a bladder infection or wet tail which is very serious so get her to a vet - if she is ill and in pain, this may be why she is biting you.
Hope everything works out for you. Good Luck.
well frist thing is to do for a new hamster dont take them out of the cage to let them explore there home!
and afther 24hours take them out and than bond with them!

MY freaking GOD PEOPLE honestly as a vet we can not do to much for him the hamester has a ear infection and to things can happen to it one it will get better or 2 he will always be like this it is caused by liquid in the ear drum the cage could have been dirty or too humid to put it in the simple forms for all the dum people out there if you get water in your ear you try to get it out or wait for it to come out well being a rodent thier ears are made to listen for attackers so thus is the reason for thier ears to be on top when this happens the ear tilt tryin to relieve pressure from the drum it is not from a broken neck if that was to happen he would not be doing normal things a stroke would have caused him to be unable to move on a side very few cases forms of cancer are involved
Take it to the vet! chances are is that it is sick or has a disibility and they can tell you how to fix it or help in some way!
Take the poor little guy to the vet! NOW
take the hamster to the vet it may have had a stroke
It may be the way he walks, but if you are just starting to notice this now, then I definetly recommend you take him to the vet now. He may have something seriously wrong with him. Good Luck!
Dude, it's a hamster. Not to be mean or anything, but have you considered that it might be kindest to put it down?
Take him to the vet RIGHT NOW, they might be able to help but brace yourself for the worst. My hammy lost the use of his back legs and was going in circles and they couldn't do anything except put him to sleep. HURRY.
take it to the vet, cuz u have no way of knowing whats wrong with it
Are there any bald patches? One of my hamsters did this once and he had skin mites.
You shouldnt even need to ask us, Take him straight to the vet>
sto shoving him up your butt and maybe the poor little guy can heal
WARNING!!!k take it to the vet!!!! it must be
that it fell or something if it squeaks then is broke sum thing
so TAKE IT TO THE VET!!
that happened to my hamster before. i was gonna take it to the vet the next day, but then i checked on her a few hours later, and she was all normal. her head wasn't tilted to the right anymore, and she wasn't walking in circles and walked properly. that happened 2 times to her, and she became in a normal posture a few hours after. i don't know how this happened or why, but your hamster should be okay. if it's with any other hamsters, separate them. if this doesn't get better in a day or two, i would suggest taking your hamster to the vet. but i think it should be okay.
I know you've heard this, but TAKE IT TO THE VET!! It's neck could be broken or something, and it's probably in pain!
I had a rat who started this about a month ago. She started to get better, but then had another episode. The vet said she had a cranial tumor and we put her to sleep because she was in pain. It could also be a stroke or an ear infection. So it would be best to take it to a vet that knows something about rodents.
take it to the vet. headtilts usually result from an ear infection or a possible tumour

she could just be in heat.
you think of taking her to the vet cause it caould be very bad
possibility shes sick or if shes been by males she could be pregnant
definitely take her to a vet
I really don't know! Um, take her to a vet or http://pet.justanswer.com/hamster...
oh i dont know i really wish i can help you and your hamster but if it came out of her mouth mabye she throw and is sick and if it came out of her behind then its urine
Hamsters have no bones but a skeleton of cartilage. That;s why they can get into tiny spaces. Now if a hamster land on it;s nose it can die. However yours wasn't even dazed and no blood is coming from either the nose mouth or the behind. the custard stuff (what on earth is yoo hoo anus or sexual organ) could be slight diarrhea. I don;t think there's anything to worry about. But DON'T DROP HER AGAIN.
I don't know but you should really see a vet . Where was the stuff coming out of? i don't think you should put your hamster on your shoulder any more
shes not sick when they are scared and fall they typically release yellow goopy stuff ive grown up with hamsters things like that are normal to me ive seen that so many times dont stress

Number one: Quit begging and start DOING.
Number two: Be responsible. Not just for a week. For the rest of the time you live with your parents. I'm saying this as both a a (former) kid as well as a mom. Ten minutes of helping out around the house a few times a day has an unbelievable impact on what your parents think of you. Not to mention, you want to take care of another life... can you even take care of yourself?
Number three: Research and report. A nice fat report full of irrefutable information shows your initiative and care about getting a hammy. This can show your parents that a hamster isn't this week's fad, and that you're in it for the long run, or however long this hamster is going to live. Find out how they live, die, play, etc. Also check out vets in the area and get prices on checkups. In your research you'll probably come across health disorders that they may have/get. Ask about treatment prices for those as well.
I grew up pretty dirt poor, so when I asked my mom for a flute she said NO WAY. So I made a deal with her and did chores around the house EVERY DAY FOR MONTHS and I paid for the $1k flute half way. I got lucky when she saw how dedicated I was to practicing my music (again, MONTHS OF HARD HARD WORK) and she took over the payments. I went on to be first chair (aka best) through school and third chair in the SW part of the state. Hard work pays off.
keep asking her till she says yes :)
Leave the subject alone for a while and wait for her to get in a good mood, show her you have done reasearch on care of a hamster and then ask
Hard to read... buuuuttttttt Maybe you should tell her you're going to pay for it. That's what got my parents to let me get one.
parents tend to be against the idea of their children having pets as they tend to be the ones who end up taking care and cleaning and feeding the pet once the novelty has warn off. Their is also the cost of keeping a pet. Who will be paying for bedding, food, cage cleaning product, accessories for the cage and vet bills if your hamster gets sick?
Generally when parents say no, thats the end of discussion, but if you want to try and win mum round, sit down with her and ask her why she does not want you to have a hamster, and have a good answer in return. Explain you will not get bored and will take good care of your pet, say you will use your pocket money each week to supply bedding and food for it. But ultimatly if your mum is insistant that you cant have a hamster there is not alot you can do about it.
If you really want a hamster, continue asking her, unless she's afraid of rodents.
Hamsters cost about eight dollars. It depends on the breed.
I have a Winter White Siberian Dwarf Hamster. His name is Bean.
People say that Siberians tend to bite a lot, but mine is really gentle and playful. He hasn't bit me or anyone. All he does is sniff their fingers and lick it :)
If you don't want a Siberian, try a Syrian. They're very gentle.
I prefer male hamsters. Female hamsters aren't very playful
and quite lazy. They also became angry easily and could bite you.
Hamsters have sharp teeth, meaning that it will hurt.
Like a tiny needle stabbing into your finger. Yes, there will be a bit of blood.

Help me and my hamster?
i just got a hamster 3 days ago, and so far i've seen about 20 peises of poop, sireusly, and i need to know if thats normal, and also, is it normal for my hamster to empty it's food bol and hide it all? and how many days can hamsters go without food, or water, and what time to hamster usualy wake up, and are they suppose to smell like fish!?!?!?!?!?!ans are they suppose to be to afrade to get out it's weel or any thing like that,
as you can see, i need alotof help. So, Please help, PLEASE.
thank you for your time and i will have best anwer in, in 3 days so good luck.

When I first got my hamster 16 months ago I was really shocked at how much he pooped, it was endless!! Rest assured this is normal. Your hamster will do it alot for the next few weeks as he is in a new environment and needs to mark his territory to make him feel safe. He will calm down after a few weeks and get into a more stable pooping routine!!
You do generally have what sounds like a normal hamster. Tipping the food bowl over is normal again. They adore there food and make a hell of a mess getting to it. My hamster sifts through his food bowl and discards all the stuff he does not like onto the floor!
Hamsters are horders, which means they hide there food to eat later on. Normally you will find a secret stash of food in a corner of the cage, and in their nests (the ares that they sleep)
Hamsters should not be left at all with no food and water. They are nocturnal animals, sleeping all day, and active through the night. They have bundles of energy when they are awake, so need a food source daily to keep their energy levels up. If you wanted to know how long hamsters can go without food for because you are planning on going on holiday soon, leave it with a trusued family member or friend. I leave my house keys with my next door neighbour if I go away and he will pop in daily to change Harry's food and water.
Hamsters wake up generally early evening, but all hamsters are different. Mine is a little older and has slowed down, but he never had a particular time. Sometimes its early evening, some times very late at night, or early the next morning. But when ever you do see your hamster awake, do take the opportunity to take it out of the cage for exercise every evening.
The fishy smell could be because your hamser is female. They do give off a scent when they are in heat, however with anything you are not sure of regarding the health of a pet, you should seek advice from a qualified vet only.
Your hamster will be scared for the first week or so, but just talk to it, be patient and dont be afraid to hold it. Hamsters are not domesticated animals and will only become social with humans if they are handled in the right manner.
But most of all, have fun with your new pet. Hamsters are the cutiest, and mine loves human company, kisses and love!!
I would get on the internet and search up hamster dieseases it sounds to me like hes sick...but check on some hamster web pages track the unusual behavior and call the vet get medical help.
Hamsters poop ALL the time, nonstop. Its completely normal. They can go for a long time without food and water actually, but its best not to try and see how long. And as for the smell, yes, they smell horrible. Clean the cage as often as you can.
whoa. relax.
hamsters poop loads, it's normal.
It is a natural instinct for hamsters to hoard much food as possible and hide it for food scarce times. This is also normal.
you have to refill your pets water every day, it needs fresh water every single day. Hamsters are usually fed once a day. You can put food in your hamsters cage at any time during the day, but Hamsters are nocturnal, so they'll sleep for a good part of the day, but will run on its wheel and make noise all night. I feed my hamster once a day, around 9 pm or so.
if you just got your hamster three days ago, it might be a little uncomfortable with his or her surroundings right now, so it is probably not afraid of coming out of it's wheel, but that might be where it feels comfortable right now.
Your hamster sounds perfectly normal
They poop all the time.
They will hide all their food and eat it later.
They should have food and water available at all times.
Hamsters wake up when it gets dark out and they go to sleep when the sun comes up.
Hamsters love their wheel.
Also make sure you have a hidding place for them to go and feel safe.
Hey its Practically normal
Hamsters Poop alot
They eat half of it 2 :S
ur description of what your Hamster is doing Means it is Well fed and Healthy. everything is fine :)
they usually wake up when u do
Hamsters Stay still when they r frightened :) They hear u waking up and get scared
You must feed it EVERY day 2 or else it will get sick,
Clean their Cage every 2 days...
Because you have just received 1 Here is a partial list of things I know they will eat:
apples
apple tree bark
pears
pear tree bark
peaches
peppers
potatoes
tulip bulbs
tomatoes
lady's slipper roots
seeds of any kind...grass seed, pumpkin seeds etc.
oats
corn
wheat
black beans
white beans
navy beans
kidney beans
peas
bread
cookies (Oreos... if they can get them...)
olive oil
corn oil
walnuts
peanuts
almonds
macadamia nuts
chestnuts
macaroni (cooked or uncooked)
dog foods (a favorite because it is somewhat of an antidote to some mouse
poisons...BUT NOT FOR HUMANS!)
cat foods
I would write more but my brain is tired. Yes, everything is safe!
Hope I helped!!
Breeza xx
i thought you're a "Rodent Expert".,.,,,hmmpf!! lol~~!
--its just OK..they're just "[ignorant"]
they're just afraid
and they are afraid to be stepped to cause they're small"!
If your hamster poops alot that is normal but please please please read on... the hamster is HOARDING food, meaning she is smartly storing it for a midnight snack. But, this could be bad, the food that your pet gets is enough but then after she eats that she eats the food that she was storing, this could lead to her getting over weight and sick!! VERY BAD!! If she hoards her food give her about half of what you have been giving her
as you can see, i need alotof help. So, Please help, PLEASE.

Help im sooo worried!?
how do i know if my hamster is sheding becuase somebody told me tht if she is shes dying im so scared can someone please help!
Answers:
when your hamster sheds little tufts of fur fall out and when you stroke them fur comes out.
If your hamster is fairly young then it is unlikley she is dying but if she is shedding i suggest calling the vets just to make sure she is ok and if there is anything you can do to help.
I hope she is ok!

I've never seen a hamster shed. Maybe thats because their hair is so small. I am sure your hamster is not dying.
My hamster shed it going near bold and then grew his hair back. It scared me at first, but after taking him to a small animal vet they said it was normal for the breed I had.
dont worry. also if its a female and it could have possibly gotten pregnant they'll pull out their fur for bedding.
Hi, dont worry if your hamster is shedding it is completely normal, especially in the winter time. Believe me, your hamster cannot die if he/she sheds. Whoever you heard that from needs to get there facts straight because they do not know what they are talking about.
if you have cedar bedding, take it out IMMEDIATELY , the oils in it cause fur loss and can eventually kill your pet.

Help i think my gerbil is sick!?
well my gerbil is obviously sick, and i'm going to try explaining the symptoms.
he has been sleeping wayy way more than usual. he seems pretty lethargic, but he still is eating and drinking. whenever i use to pick him up he would try to scurry away. but these past few days i've noticed he just lets me pick him up. its weird.
his cagemate will scratch and dig in the corners, but all he does is sleep. i havent seen him active at all today or yesterday.
his coat, i noticed, is puffing up and getting messy. and you know how normally you can barely see gerbils breathing? well now he's breathing pretty a lot harder. :-[
i read online about symptoms of illnesses for gerbils, and i believe he has a resperatory infection. can anyone confirm this?
or has anything similar happened to your pet?
Answers:
He is pretty old. It could be his time has come. If it's a respiratory infection you should be able to hear clicking in his lungs when you hold him near your ear. But even with treatment he may not survive because of his age.
I'd have a vet check it out, gerbils normal get slow when they are sick or near death, I would take it to a vet.
it might be wettail. take him out of the same cage with the other gebil asap. and take him to the vet.
my hamster had something like that but later something was starting to come out her eye and she was barely breathing at all and she died soon after
i'm sorry he/she is sick!
you need to take it to the vet!
I have a hamster and she got that way when her wheel broke. I got her a bigger area and a new wheel and she perked up and was back to her normal self. When i put a new hamster in with her the new one hogged the water and the old one got dehidrated and weak - so i'd suggest give them more room and they like to be solitary
Hmmmmm, well it could be just because you gerbil is getting old and more tired. It's sad that you can't afford to take him to the vet, but there may be a way you can check for illness yourself. If any of the following is true he may be sick:
-his fur has bald patches
-his eyes aren't clear, or glazed over
-his poop is er.welll...ya know...not quite solid?
He also may have been hurt and is in alot of pain. Does he limp at all? Are his feet always facing the right way? Has his tail been cut off?
Other then checking for those things there's not much else you can do if you can't take him to the vet :(...sorry I can't be of more help!
*hope he get's better!!*

Answers:
Ask you parents if you could do anything for them. Even if you are an adult, I don't know how old you are, I know mine is happy to throw a few bucks my way if I spend a few days doing household repairs, painting, weeding, cleaning, etc.
Look around you, do have have anything you don't like or use any more? Sell it on e bay.
Talk to the petstore maybe they will let you pay it off over time.
Talk to a neighbor that has uncut grass, weeding, or other chorse that need to be done, see if they will pay you to do them.
Put a sign saying you will do yard clean up for dogs, or take care of pets while people are on vacation. If you are good with all types of animals it may work for you.
Ask the petstore if they need some temperary help.
Have a garage sale
a job would be sweet
offer to babysit somones kid?.or ask the neighbors if you can walk there dogs for money? get your dads lawn mower out and cut their grass for $10 each? make lemonade and sell it the community? LOTS OF THINGS YOU CAN DO TO RAISE THE MONEY!!!
You Have The Same Problem As ME With My Hammie What You Should Do Is Ask Your Parents If You Can Do Extra Chores For An Hour A Day And Earn some "Money Credit" From Your Parents Then Buy The Cage
try little jobs like babysitting or lawn work. save money like pocket change. every penny makes a different.
okay.you don't have a job so it is easy.go around and do a
car wash
mowing lawn
babysitting
helping around in your house
or
ask for a raise in your allowance or get a allowance
Are you creative at all? You could create some art or something cool and sell it on eBay.
You might also check eBay and see if they have the cage for cheaper.
Perhaps you could start a little lawn care business. Explain your situation to your friend's parents (and even your parents) and see if they have odd jobs they could pay you for. And there's always baby sitting!
Good Luck!!
Get a bunch of friends in an unused parking lot and do a car wash for like $5, babysit, paper route, yard sale, or mow lawns.
Wash cars
Petsit
I babysit for $8 an hour. I love babies and very experienced so it is like second nature to me. Be sure that when you do set up a babysitting job to remind the parents that they need to provide you with a frozen bag of breastmilk or formula and also some diapers and wipes. There should be a diaper bag with emergency items like baby tylenol, thermometer and 1 or 2 changes of clothes.
babysit,paper route , lemonade stand?
DON'T TRY E-BAY! I did and no one bought my art 0 bids. And I am a very good artist. Walk people's dogs for 5$ per dog.
You can get a newspaper route. Or walk dogs, mow lawns, and babysit. Just advertise around your neighborhood and you should get phonecalls in no time. If you have any old clothes in good shape find a Plato's Closet near you and they'll buy them from you. And for household items you don't want go to a New Uses %26 they'll buy them too. Good Luck !
car washes work well. try to put it on layaway so u dont miss the sale price
good luck
There are alot of excellent answers listed to your question, select the ones that you feel comfortable doing and then go and do it.
You could also ask your church if they need anything done around the property, talk to your friendly neighbors, ask them if they need any types of errands done that they are unable to do themselves, perhaps they are handicapped or elderly, or even bedridden.
Be creative and you can and WILL earn the money that you need to help your pet to enjoy his new digs.
Good Luck kid!

Help i just got a new hamster?
ya i got a new one today and i was wondering how and when i should play with it and when i play with it should i like hold it everyday, or what and if i hold it do they like that?
Answers:
You should leave it alone for 2-3 days.
When you do finally take it out, wake him up slowly. If you startle him, he may bite. Fluff the bedding around him to wake him up and get his attention.
Then try offering him a small treat, like a sunflower seed to get him out of bed.
Then pet him slowly and don't move too fast.
If he seems ok so far, scoop him up in your hands. Hold him over the cage so if he falls, he falls back into his cage.
If he seems afraid and won't let you touch him, this is ok. He is still adjusting. Just leave him alone and try again the next day.
This should be good for day one. Every day, slowly increase the amount of time he is outside the cage. About half an hour to an hour a day is enough play time for him.
It helps to take him out at night, when he will be more awake.
good luck
Leave your hamster alone for a week so that it can get used to its new home.
It'd probably be best to give it attention at LEAST once a day. After that, just work with whatever your schedule allows.
you should make it happen slow
1) talk to it for a few days
2) pick it up for a few seconds a few times a day
3) gradually hold him for longer periods of time
you might also make sure he sees you puttin food in his bowl
o and the most important thing of all.. if you use wood bedding, ONLY use aspen wood
Hamsters usually sleep during daytime. So the best time to handle them is in the evening or the early morning. Just scoop it up gently and talk to it quietly. After a while it will get used to your voice and to handling it.
Be careful, a scared hamster might bite.
Just be gentle, and you and your pet can be friends for a long time
it ALL depends on the personality of the hamster. some like to be cuddled and other wanna be left alone!! it doesn't matter what time. but make sure u don't hold it 24/7 cause they do need their rest. its ok if u wake em up every once in a while so u can hold it, it will catch up with its sleep, (they do sleep alot) good luck with ur new best friend!!
leave it for a few days to let it get used to its surrounding then handle it everyday so that a bond will grow between you two. if a hamster is not handled for more than 5 days it will become wild again.
Wait a few days for the hamster to get adjusted to his new home. Once he has adjusted play with him later during the day when he is already up. You should play with him at least 30 minutes per day. They like it when they are held
Leave him for 24hours. Then you should pick him up and just let him get used to you for about 5-10minutes.
You should put him on your lap and let him do what he wants. And hold him too. This decreases the chance of him biting.
Ok here's what you should do:
- Sit by his cage and talk to him very quietly.
- Leave him in his cage for the first 4 or 5 days.
- Talk to him every day in the same voice.
- On day 4, let him sniff your hand
- If he doesn't seem to mind, pet him with 1 or 2 fingers very gently.
- On day 5, you can hold him
- Be very gentle with him
- Let him crawl on you, and still talk to him.
- Give him kisses :)
- Hold him for about 30 minutes a day.
- And increase it more and more daily.
- Soon, he'll grow to love you! :)
Best of luck!
Hope I helped
