Hamster looks greasy?

Kind of by the neck, and about an inch back from there. It looks a little matted, I tried taking a picture, but it doesnt look the same.
Answers:
My Syrian hamster gets greasy looking spiky kinda fur going on around the back of her neck sometimes too. I call it "nappy neck"
To solve it, sprinkle some Chinchilla bath dust on their head, neck and back. This will make them shake and rub it in, therefore eliminating "nappy neck".
has it, by chance, been eating ham?
if you want to clean it they have dust for small animals that cleans then they might not have it for hamsters but they have it for chinchillas and im sure it would work the same
check your food label. If it has fish oil in the top 5 ingredients this will happen and sometimes it will smell.
is the cage cleaned regularly?
have you given it any type of greasy food? you might try a baby wipe to clean it with and see if that helps. do you give it vitamins or fruit/veg that would make it greasy?
Here are some of the answer:
Can be due to fungus( ringworms), mites( mange), infection of bite wounds, or degeneration due to old ages often, owners mistake two patches of dark coarse hair, one on each side over the hips, for skin disease. Actually, these patches, more obvious in males than in females, are normal and are the sites of special glands. These glands play a part in sexual attraction ( hamsters in the wild seek out their mates by smell) and are possibly also used for making territory.
Diagnosis and treatment:
The veternarian will diagnose the type of any skin ailment, often with the aid of laboratory tests on skin or hair scrapings, and then precrible specific treatment.
We sold chinchillas in the pet store I worked at years ago. We used baby powder on them. Just sprinkle a bit of that on your hands away from your hamster so he doesn't breathe any in, and just rub in into his fur. That way it shouldn't have to cost you any money.
What type of hamster is it? Syrian or Campbell? He's probably satin, it's a kind of coat type. Most hamsters have the "normal" coat type. Coat types are dominant, so if you were to breed your hamster, 50% of the offspring would be satin coated.
Don't use a baby wipe. If you get him soapy you'll have to give him a bath, which will remove all the natural oils from his coat and make him sick.
Hope this helps :)
