Their hair is just changing colors just like ours can as we grow up. Our 5 grey hair Syrians (all long hair too) changed from light grey to a medium and one, the only female to dark grey as they got older.
Now someone mentioned about the litter you use, please use a litter like Care Fresh, it will help prevent the hamster from having allergic reactions to wood litters. We use only Care Fresh in our small animal rescue and with our personal pets. We have had several hamsters and rats with allergies and one with a respiratory infection from being housed in pine come to us. They had to be vet treated and are now fine. Also using certain woods like pine can create toxic fumes to build up in the cage in the litter that is caused when the small animal urinates. We may not smell it, but where they are barely an inch above the litter with their nose they breath it in. This can cause respiratory infections and even death to some small animals. I just was talking to a lady tonight at a pet store who lost their hamster suddenly after only having it 3 weeks and she had it in pine and had thought of this herself. When she left the store she had bought some Care Fresh for the other hamster she still had and was going to change the litter right away.
It's just changing color and growing up. No worries!
It could be.
a) the bedding
b) age (most likely)
Change your bedding and see what happens. If nothing happens, congratz your hammie is growing up!
P.S. If you notice less fur on it's ears it's getting older.
that same thing happened to my teddybear hamster, Turbo, it is just part of growing up. So don't worry 'bout it your little hamster's growing up. They grow up so fast!!
It's just part of it's growth, no worries! :D
it's just teh age you will also notice if ti's a mail it will get feathers( long hair) they get this as they get older.
Should be nothign to worry about.
Don't worry.It is a good thing.It's changing color because it's growing up.
