Hamster help?

why does my hamster put the aspen shavings in his water and food i clean his food and water out and he does it again
Answers:
Hamsters have a natural desire to burry their food and save it for later. That way no preditors can find it. They don't understand that they are in a cage.
For their water, a water bottle is much better than a dish. Check this out

and if you have a glass cage, you can use one of these to hang it

Good luck
It's normal for hamsters and gerbils to do that. To solve the water problem, buy a water bottle instead. For the food, you can leave the shavings in their, maybe clean it out once or twice a day. Hamsters and gerbils like to bury their food, don't worry, he will be able to find it later.
you shouldn use a bowl for his water. you should use a water bottle
get a waterbottle to prevent this. what he is doing is trying to hoard his food and hide it. it is a natural instinct and you can really stop them from doing this. its okay if wood shavings are in the food. he probubly likes it that way.
I didn`t think that Aspen bedding is good for hamsters, so I don`t know
I have had the same problem with all my rodents. Bye a water bottle for the water and maybe a deeper food dish or just leave the food in a clean corner of the cage.
i had a hamster and that happened to me so buy a water bottle and just leave the food there thats all u have to do!
He does that bcuz in the wild they bury there food so that other aniamls cant get to it. Its just how they are.
He is probably trying to make a bed... thats what mine used to do since we wern't able to get it a real cage right away but if you get a waterbottle it stops him.
Maybe he doesn't like his food and water?
