Hamster?

what's the best kind of hamster to get? i'm gonna get a new one and is petco a good place to get them?
Answers:
I had Teddy Bear Hamsters when I was a kid. I loved them...they were so fuzzy and cute...plus the ones that I had never bit and had great personalities. I am not sure about Petco.
a male any variety so you don't have to worry that it's pregnant when you buy it. Petco is a fine place to get one.
It depends on what you want in a hamster. If you want something thats fun to watch, Roborovski hamsters are very cute and very active. If you want something you can handle, that will bond with you more, than a Syrian hamster is usually a better choice. Petco is an okay place to get them, but if there are any breeders in your area, go to them first. Their hamsters will be healthier and more socialized.
either short haired teddy bear or golden.
idk i dont like petco cuz i have really good local pet store. but males are better in my opinion . teddy or dwarf
The once that dont bite.Their kind of big like your hand.DONT BUY THE LITTLE ONCE!! i hate those they bite and theire lace!aggressive and they eat theire babies!! buy the hand size one and yeah petco is a good place =]
you should go to pet smart and ask which is the hamster they sell the most and to tell you the truth the cutest ones are the dwarf hamsters.
petco is fine, they usually do a good job of checking hamsters for illness and injury before they seel them.
female dwarf hamster, who are bought together, can live together pretty well. they will live 1-2 years.
syrian hamsters can not live together unless you're breeding them. they will live 3-5 years.
long haired hamsters, like fancy hamsters, may require some grooming but will not be much different from short hair hamsters.
i own a dwarf hamster and a "black bear" syrian hamster (not in the same cage). both are incredibly nice and friendly to me, but i perfer the full-sized one bacuse she's easier to handle without feeling like i'll drop her.
I think teddy bear are best. they never bit me when I was little. Petco is OK but they don't tame their pets. so it will probably be hard to handle at first.
I would recommend that you get a syrian hamster. These guys don't bite that much (compared to the dwarf hamsters!), are VERY cute, and are the easiest type of hamster to have! Do you have a local animal shelter near where you live? Do they have hamsters there? If you aren't sure, then, I would recommend that you check out: www.gotpetsonline.com! I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck,

To Answer Your Questions:
1)it depends on prefference, there are the miniature hamsters and then there are the regular sized ones. The mini ones Need to be kept in atleast a duo. Normal sized hammies can only be kept alone. mini hammies are a little more difficult to tame and if you dont handle them often enough, they become un tame, regular hammies are easier to tame and will stay tame even wihout frequent interaction. if you are a beginner an have never had a hammy before, larger hammys are the better choice because they are easier to care for and hardier. both mini hammies and regular sized ones need adequate, safe housing and daily interaction with humans.
2) It doesnt really atter WHERE you get your pet, just as long as is in good health, shape, none of its cagemates are sick, it is not sick, and if possible (with the help of a sales clerk ONLY) try holding several different hammies for a while one at a time to see how they react to you and how you like them. plz note that when u first pick up ANY hammie, especially one not tamed, it will get scared and May bite or try to bite you. choose the hammy that you feel most comfortable with and like the most!
Hope i was helpfull! good luck!!
hi,
i have been owning hamsters since a small kid. Many people have different views on hamsters. If you would like to play and handle our hamsters, and you are not afraid of big hamsters, then the syrian hamster is perfect for you. But you must be warned that they are not very sociable creatures, even though you put 2 of the same gender together.
if you dont mind smaller sized, and they run around very fast. And if you like them to interact with each other, then the dwarf breed will be suitable for you.
if you dont want to touch them much, and like to see them run very quickly, then the roboroski breed is suitable for you.
everyone has different views. Good luckin finding a suitable one soon ^^
cheers,
Sabby
yes petco or petsmart is good, get a syrian they live alone, are the biggest and friendliest. panda bear, short hair, long hair, black bear, honey bear, calico, dalmation, to name a few.
