Syrian hamsters are solitary animals, if you keep them together they'll kill each other. Dwarfs or Russians are more sociable and will live in pairs or groups as long are they are introduced at an early age. Actually, if you decide to buy a Dwarf or Russian they tend to get very lonely so buy him or her a companion. Just remember to not put male and female together or you'll end up with a lot of babies
Yes, you can keep them in the same cage.
Most hamsters prefer to be by themselves unless they're mating. But having two males or two females in the same cage can be trouble.
my friend had a dwarf hamster and that big gold hamster in a cage and the gold one bit the dwarfs neck halfway off...
Rats are actually nicer to each other. and they smell much better.
Well I`m not sure about syniern hamsters, but I know that you can keep dwarf hamsters in the same cage. Petco has dwarf hamsters, and they usually run for about 10-20 dollars each.
It's not a good idea to keep them in the same cage.
But if you're going to:
Make sure there is plenty of room for both of them...buy a big cage!
Make sure they're the same sex (or they'll breed like crazy!)
Make sure you buy them from the same shop and same cage or whatever they've been in..so they've been living together. This should make them less likely to fight, as they're used to each other. :)
Dwarf hamsters would probably be better to keep together as they're smaller and I've seen them kept in the same cage.
However, make sure the cage wires are close together otherwise the hamsters may be able to escape...dwarf hamsters are tiny! :P
In my experience Dwarf Hamsters simply do not get along. They are more aggressive.
Syrian hamsters can get along. It's unpredictable. Make sure they're the same gender though...
well, dwarf hamsters do not exist. they are a figment of your imagination. second of all, it is not really your birthday, that is also a figment of your imagination. third of all, do not put them in the same cage unless you wish to have a syniern/dwarf hamster with abdominal disformities. now, you are probably wondering, how could there possibly be abdominal disformities if there a pure figment of your imagination. well my friend, that is an entirely nother question.
hope i was helpful!
good day!
dwafs can live 2geva happily but its strongly advised not 2 keep syrians 2gever beyond leaving the nest. its 2 risky they either kill each other or have pups popping out all the time but either way eventually the female puts the male into place with violence occationally the other way round but more likely the female turns. i have 1 of each sex had em 4 approx 2-3 months they were approx a year old wen we got em the previous owner had them in seperate cages as told by the petshop owner he got em off. we've asked on yahoo searched on websites and asked in pet shops they need seperate cages. theyre so adorable n friendly tho, our male was abit nibbly at 1st but he soon got used 2 us.
oh and ur not suposed 2 hold em 4 the 1st 48 hours so they can get used 2 ur precence b4 ur contact but i dont think it matters 2 much. gd luck
I have had two dwarf hampsters before. It is completely okay for them to be in the same cage. But be carful because they can have babies (if the opposite sex). I would suggest Meijer, that is where I got mine. They don't really need too much care other than, food, water, and a little love!
Syrian hamsters should not be kept in the same cages. I have tried it before, it has resulted in them fighting. Syrian hamsters have terrible tempers... Hehe. Dwarf hamsters, on the other hand, can usually be kept in the same cage if they're put together at a young age. Dwarfs are also usually more tolerant though they have shorter life spans. As for the pet co thing, I really have no idea if they would have dwarf hamsters... It's possible, though.
If you are going to get 2...get 2 FEMALES. They don't stink as much and they get along better than 2 males or even better than a male and a female. You shouldn't mix smaller and larger breeds together. The large ones pick on the smaller ones. You should get a book on hamsters BEFORE buying them, that way you'll know everything you need to know about them and be a better, more confident pet owner!
No, not Syrian hamsters.
2 males will fight and a male and female arent good either.
Go with the dwarfs.
Yes you can have two in a cage but only if they were in the same cage when you bought them they have to grow up together but still i would not two in a cage most like to live by themselves unless they are mating. You can try but if they fight or one is mean to the other like not letting it eat or drink then you need to seperate them! hope i helped!!!!!
You shouldn't keep two hamsters in the same cage because they like to fight. The first time my family got hamsters we put them in the same cage, and overnight one of them killed the other. This is true about male and female.
