On Monday, I am getting a male, Syrian hamster. I need help with what to name him first of all. I was thinking about the name Peanut. Also I need some tips from a hamster owner. How do I take him a bath? When do I take him a bath? What should I feed him? How do I clean his cage? When do I clean his cage? And also are there any other tips? Please Help. Thanks! I really appreciate it. My Dad says he's not sure about getting me one becuase he says I'm not going to take care of it, but I'll show him. As soon as I get some answers, I'll be a hamster pro! Thanks again!

That is the name site. When they are really dirty wipe them with a damp cloth and make sure they are 100% dry after words! Otherwise give them a dust bath once every two weeks. You can buy them at a pet store. You can buy hamster food there also. When you clean its cage(once a week or more) you empty out all of the bedding and food. then take the whole cage apart and soak it in the sink or bath tub. Fill it with warm water and a drop of Clorox. Let the cage sit in there for about an hour and make sure you get all of the Clorox of. Then just set up the cage as normal.
If you need anymore answers just email me at sgtgardner@msn.com.
There are hundreds of websites about hamster care, and there is too much information for me to tell you here.
petsmart.com
petco.com
do a google search on "hamster care"
By the way, you're not supposed to bathe hamsters. If you really want to, wipe it with a damp cloth, and the immediately dry it off with a dry cloth and make sure he is 100% dry when you put him back in the cage.
there is a complete care sheet for rodents on this pet webpage. Gives you a lot of useful advice for caring for general hamsters.
I like the name peanut my daughter has a hamster we named him Hammy and there are lots of websites about hamster care we love our hammy he is great
Peanut is alright. Don't put your hampster in water because it hurts his fur. You can use a certain kind of powder. Go to a local pet store. If you don't know at least what to feed him, i msure you are not ready for a hampster. Im sure once you get your little pet you can ask a worker how to take care of it.
And also there are books you can read for rodent care.
I once had a Hamster named Peanut it was soooo cute. I think thats a great name
I don't know if they need baths but u could ask a friend of urs who owns a hamster
feed him hamster food buy it at wal mart or a pet store
dump out all the stuff in the hamsters cage into the trash can
then put some new stuff in lol good luck
Hamsters really don't need that much caring for. You need to decide what sort of hamster you want, colour-wize. There's lots of different colours out there. The name should click with you when you go to choose your hamster.
Your hamster will not need a bath, it will keep itself clean. I know it sounds strange but you should never give your hamster a bath, because it can get chills and pneumonia, which could kill him if you aren't careful. He could also drown if you don't know how to do it properly.
First, before you get your hamster, you need to get a cage. The cage should come with a food bowl and you should buy a water bottle to fit on the side of the cage. Also buy some hamster shaving, and some fluffy bedding. Put the hamster shavings down so it has proper floor, and put the fluffy bedding in one corner of the cage, and the food bowl in the Middle of the cage.
When you go to buy your new hamster, buy the food there, then when you get back home with your hamster, put the food in and the fresh water, and put the box with your hamster in,, in the cage. Let him come out by himself. When he has come out of the box, take the box out and shut the cage door. Leave him alone in a quiet, calm room to settle down into his new home.
Don't stroke him or pick him up for at least 48 hrs after putting him in his new home. whenever you see him, talk to him and maybe start using two fingers to stroke him with. If he is stil scared, leave it a little longer.
Change the cage at least once a fortnight. To do this, gently pick up your hamster and put him in a hamster bowl so he can run round the room while you change his cage. Make sure the bowl is locked and has holes so that he has room to breathe. Take the food bowl out of your hamster's cage and put all the dirty shavings and Bedding into the bin bag, then clean the cage with water %26 damp cloths, put some new hamster shavings in, new bedding, new food and new water, then put him back in to enjoy his new home.
Never feed your hamster anything you shouldn't. Just feed him the basic 'Hamster' food and if you want to give him treats, get treats specifically for hamsters from the Pet Store.
Hope this helped, and sorry it's long! Lol. x
OK let me walk u though these are ALL the things u gonna need
cage(big as u can get) food, bedding, toys(and lots of em)
a ball for him or her to run in,maybe some treats,Vietnam's,OK
i think that's all now about the name that's a hard one but u
might give a nick name my hammy is boo i love her very much and my other one i call him boo too so think of something cute like milk shake or milky way its really depends on the hamster maybe on the way it acted or the color well hope u get a happy hamster!
P.S better get a boy hamster(dosent stink much!)
u should feed him every day and get hamster food from petco or something and u clean its cage when it gets really dirty or like every week. DO NOT put ceader shavings in the cage it will give the hamster mites! dont get the exersize wheel with spaces in it, it might break the hamsters legs. Go to google and type in names and it will come up with a bunch of names!
