Perhaps it has a cold.
Hamsters should not make noise in general, if it is making a sniffling noise it could be 1 of two things. (from what I know from personal experience)
1. It has a cold/pnenomnia, in which case it needs to be treated by a vet.
2. If you are using either PINE or CEDAR shavings, stop using them immediately. These shavings cause respitory problems (which causes a wheezing noise). Use aspen or carefresh.
If you have the funds, I would take it to a small animal vet just to make sure its healthy.
well i've never had a hamster but i had a gerbil and it was squeaking all the time so probably yes

my hamster, Tommy, does the same thing. He acts like a dog, he barks, he rolls over, and he sits like a dog. I think he switched minds with a dog. Your hamster is just very vocal. My neighbor says that Tommy is the vocalist hamster she has ever met. have fun with 4! Have they had babies yet?
take it to your vet it may have a virus or lung problems
haha actually this morning when i gave one of my hamsters a cuddle he made a funny grunting noise. maybe he wasn't impressed with my choice of perfume :-P i dont think its anything to worry about
